Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction—the Horcruxes. On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Professor Dumbledore, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever. But there are Dark Forces in their midst that threaten to tear them apart.

Meanwhile, the wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark Lord. The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort’s Death Eaters seize control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting anyone who might oppose them. But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter. The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort…alive.

If I had to put money on it, I would say it’s definitely not.  First off, it doesn’t look professionally done (though sometimes I think that and they actually are official artwork). Second the colors look off, instead of the bright glowing blue color with black, this has an almost greyish quality to it.

My guess is that it’s a fanmade one, that isn’t very good. Or perhaps an international poster (sometimes their posters can look a bit strange).

If it actually is, I would tell Disney to fire whoever created and approved it because it just doesn’t look very good.  What do you guys think?

I haven’t been watching much of what has been posted in way of what is to come on Dexter S5, I’m not interested in spoilers, not in major ones anyway, but these pictures prove to be more intriguing than they do spoilerish. Or, they are related to what I haven’t been able to resist pressing play on, sure there is a blonde in a barrel but it is so random, or is it? I guess we will soon see. They also don’t show any of the new massive supporting cast. This isn’t to say that I don’t have my own predictions ready to share with you soon, but the producers aren’t, as expected, giving us much to go on. But after last nights two Emmy’s; with a genuinely and well earned win to John Lithgow for Outstading Guest Actor in a Drama and Steve Shill for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series, where he directed the season’s finale The Getaway, I began to get so overly excited for the new season of Dexter I simply had to post the most recent and really only shots [originally released from Showtime] for S5. And with True Blood coming to an end my anticipation for the new season is only escalating.

Dexter S5 premieres in less than a month on Sunday September 26th.

The current British Batman revolution started with Grant Morrison. In the 25 years since his first foray into Gotham – a text-only story called The Stalking published in the 1986 Batman UK annual – Morrison had been a successful-but-casual Batman contributor. His groundbreaking Arkham Asylum graphic novel, co-created with Dave McKean (a fellow Brit) forced Bat-fans to take note. In the deliciously dark Gothic, illustrated by Klaus Janson and first published in DC’s Legends of the Dark Knight, Morrison revisited Bruce Wayne’s formative years and pitted Batman against The Devil. But it was when DC handed Morrison the reigns of Batman, the flagship Bat-title in 2006 that the British invasion truly took off.

Spinning out of Morrison’s Batman RIP and Batman & Son story-lines, DC launched a new Bat-title Batman and Robin, also penned by Morrison and – initially – drawn by Frank Quietly (a Brit). As I write this, Morrison is penning both the ongoing Batman and Robin and Batman titles for DC.

“OK, so Morrison is writing two Bat-Books. Is that all you got?” I hear you cry. Actually no, there’s more. June of this year saw British writer David Hine take over as regular writer on DC’s ‘second’ bat-title Detective Comics. Hine – who has previously written The Brave and the Bold, the Battle for the Cowl: Arkham Asylum mini and the Joker’s Asylum: Two Face one-shot – is also the regular writer on Azrael, another Bat-title. And did I mention Morrison’s Return of Bruce Wayne mini? That’s the three ‘major’ Bat-books plus another ongoing and a game-changing mini all in the hands of Brits. Stretching the point a little, I could include the upcoming UK-based-but-Bat-inspired Knight and Squire mini which will be written by Brit Paul Cornell and drawn by Brit Jimmy Broxton.

But it’s not just British writers who are thriving in the Bat-Universe, British artists are also making their mark on Gotham City. Frazer Irving is the current artist on Batman and Robin, Jock will be joining David Hine on Detective Comics later this month and Lee Garbett – fresh from successful stints on both The Outsiders and Batgirl – has been handed the enviable task of drawing the climax of Morrison’s Return of Bruce Wayne mini.

Still not convinced? What about the movies? Few can argue that The Dark Knight and (to a lesser degree) Batman Begins have redefined Batman to a larger, non-comic book audience. And where is Christopher Nolan, the writer-director responsible for breathing new life into the cinematic Batman franchise from? Yup, that’ll be Britain. And Christian Bale – the ‘face’ of Batman for cinema audiences? Also a Brit.

So what’s the reason for this British Batman invasion? It could be merely coincidence but I have a theory (for what its worth); of all the major DC properties it is perhaps Batman and his adventures permeated as they are by cynicism, pessimism and darkness that are closest to the British psyche. A cursory glance through 2000AD – the proving ground for many of the creators mentioned above – is testament to the British penchant for the bleaker side of science fiction and fantasy. Of course Brits don’t have a monopoly on these traits. For example I have long thought that the Batman mythos owes a great deal to Edgar Allan Poe’s mix of gothic, horror and detective fiction. But when it comes to the major comic book heroes, it seems to me that Brits are by nature, more comfortable with the ambivalence of Batman than the iconography of Superman or Spider-Man.

IMAGE COMICS AND COMIXOLOGY LAUNCH APP FOR iOS

Independent creators have gained unparalleled access to digital distribution through leading iOS comic platform.

It looks the big comic books publishers aren’t going to have a chance to push the little guys out the digital door.  Image Comics enters the mobile market with the launch of the Image Comics app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The app, developed on the leading digital comic book platform by ComiXology, allows fans unprecedented digital access to the creator-owned comics that Image proudly publishes.

ComiXology has been doing a great job of creating iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch apps for reading comic books on your favorite Apple mobile device. Honestly, ComiXology has me convinced I need to get an iPad. The Image Comics App like the Marvel, DC and ComiXology apps works and looks great; the best part there is currently a ton of free content (full issues), to wet your independent whistle .

The app provides creator-owned books to see the digital light of day while giving the largest organization of independent creators straightforward access to digital distribution which many, if not most have never had before. For so many businesses the Internet is a level playing field, it doesn’t matter if you have 6 employees or 600, you still have the opportunity to win business, and that is what ComiXology has done, given creator’s their own imprint app to get their work out to the digital masses.

I played around with the app a bit, and downloaded the first issues of Robert Kirkman’s the Walking Dead, and just like the rest of the apps in the ComiXology family it worked perfectly. After reading through the first issue on my iPhone I was very impressed with the app, I can only assume these look outstanding on an iPad. The addition of the app brings comics one-step closer to the digital age.

After I reviewed the DC Comics app, I said I didn’t think digital apps would be spelling doom for the print comic book industry. I still believe that, you still can’t get this week’s issues online currently, but what the Image app does that the DC and Marvel apps don’t, is provide a chance for you to find the next Bone or Walking Dead. If a creator does not have the funds to print their work or distributor to spread it to the public, why not throw it on on the Image app and sell if for $1.99 along with the big dogs? We are in a new age of communications and something good is hard to keep under wraps for too long any more thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and more. This app can do nothing but good for the creator-owned comic book world.

Personally I was super excited for this game when it came out but ultimately was disappointed at what I believe were many narrative, gameplay, and technical flaws.  While I still enjoyed the game, for me it never lived up to the potential of what it could have been, which is a great game. 

What do you guys think of this rumor and a Red Dead Redemption movie in general?

Who should they get to direct?  To me the game seems heavily influenced by John Hillcoat’s The Proposition and they even had him “direct” a short film machinima version for the game.

It’s a live action sequence entitled “Deliver Hope” and features some cool visuals and action. I still think the Neil Blomkamp short films are better but this still is pretty impressive.

This week’s Brightest Day takes a step back from last week’s explosive issue, but we still get some nice story progressions. I feel like this series is really starting to pick up steam and find it’s way. What it has taken me eight issues to realize is the virtue of this story is resurrection. It will not share the pace of Blackest Night, Brightest Day is about rebuilding and finding a new way.

Brightest Day issue #8 looks amazing! Hawkworld is a truly alien planet (or portal as the case may be), and the pencils and inks really captured it this month. It is a dark and violent place, and the reveal to what Hawkworld really is was very, VERY cool. I know I have not been the biggest fan of the Hawks, but Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi are doing their best to change my mind.

We started the issue with Boston Brand, Hawk and Dove, discussing their visions from last issue. Hawk shares what he saw about Dove and a boomerang to the chest, and when they ask the White Ring why Dove needs protections the ring indignantly replies, “We all need protection. And we need a new protector. So start searching.” Dove then hops a ride with Boston as the White Ring teleports him away.

The Martina Manhunter storyline is the other big story arc in this issue. J’onn and Miss Martian look at the crazed Martian running amok on Earth. It turns out that J’onn may or may not be the only surviving Green Martian, and the insights into the Green vs. White Martian civil war was really cool. Especially since I honestly don’t know as much about Martian Manhunter’s history as I should.

Anyway, this is another solid outing for the Brightest Day series, even without visiting Firestorm or Aquaman (who will be featured next issue I’m sure, the title is “Black Manta Returns”. So run out and pick this one up, and if you can find it there is a great Firestorm variant cover.

The cost of the DLC will be 800 Microsoft points which is $10 and is the most expensive DLC released for ME2 so far.  Hopefully the cost is justified with the length and quality of the mission.  I thought the previous Overlord DLC was worth the price but Kasumi’s was not.

The constant bickering between Bruce and Terry is one of the brightest spots of this mini-series. Adam Beechen has really captured the frustration of Bruce, he is on the sidelines and Terry is trying to be his own Batman, while balancing his life. We all understand the delicate balance of the work like, so it adds a bit of realism to the fantastic story that is the Batman. When Terry lets Bruce down by failing to save Calendar Man, you can physically feel the rift between the two Batmen widen and when Terry finally discovers what was behind the curtain (hint, it’s not a wizard), you can feel it split.

This issue has a lot of drama and really progresses the story forward, plus we get a couple of blasts from the past that I was not expecting. I’ll leave you with this; this mini-series is worth every penny of the $2.99 cover price. If you are not reading this you should, it’s a great new take on an existing story with a compelling hero and terrifying villain, with the all of the past Bat-history at Beechen’s disposal. The last three issues has the potential to go anywhere, especially with the characters re-introduced this month.

Celebrate the Web 2 was an event designed to give both in person and live-stream audience members a sense of how web series are created and what the options for distribution are. It also offered a taste of some current and upcoming web series that are of particular interest to a comic con audience. As this was the Con the event focused on geek centric web series.

Take a look at the above trailers for:  Apocalypse Wow,  Zimm, Scifinal.com, Hysteria California, First Edition, Black Box TV, Fury of Solace, Asylum and We Break Hearts.

Each of the event’s organizers is uniquely qualified to talk about web series creation. All three of these women are consistent supporters of and contributors to the web community.

Jenni Powell got her start as a production assistant on Lonely Girl 15, The Guild and Legend of Neil. She is now the associate editor at Tubefilter News and is a producer at Zombie Gold Productions. Producing partners Stephanie Thorpe and Taryn O’Neill are bona fide Sci-Fi lovers and have created and/or starred in series such as: After Judgment, Gold: Night of the Zombie King, Compulsions and Hurtling Through Space At An Alarming Rate.

You can see samples of these talented ladies, as well as all of the contributing panelists work  here:

The web series included in the Sci Fi panel were: The Mercury Men, Universal Dead, Riese, After Judgment, Pryce and Continuum.

The web series included in the Fantasy/Gaming forum were:  A Comic Book Orange, I Heart Vampires, A Good Knight’s Quest, Chick, Chad Vader, Gold: Night of the Zombie King.

The panels provided (sometimes heated) discussions on the trials of web financing, the possibilities for a turning a profit and the ultimate purpose of web content creation. Often web series are seen as platforms for entry into more traditional media.One of the featured series, Universal Dead, has secured a deal with Paramount for a feature version of the series. Yet some creators feel that web content ought to be geared specifically towards the platform itself.

Now I don’t know if they battle system is being updated or fixed at all but I will be getting the game regardless and this trailer definitely gets me excited despite my reservations about the combat.

Where you a fan of the first game and what did you think of the combat system?

It is always a treat to get a glimpse inside Hammond’s head, where he is the hero and Hal Jordan is the deformed villain. Oh, and Carol Ferris loves him instead of Hal. He certainly has some interesting visions. His adventure doesn’t last very long and it is quickly obvious Hammond is still in his prison.

A powerful telepath like Hector Hammond has to be controlled with drugs and guards wear telepathic inhibitor helmets to keep him out. Too bad for the guards the mysterious Guardian is still in Vegas and give Hammond a nice little power bump and evil “mind rats” attach paving the way for his escape.

The best and worst parts of this issue… the return of our greedy little friend Larfleeze. YAY!

It is the best part because; it is great to catch up with him. He’s been terrorizing the community of North Branch, Minnesota. To the tune of 276 broad day break-ins, he and is orange constructs taking pretty much what ever they desire, most notably the Sheriff’s Wife’s pink yard flamingo. I love the idea of Larfleeze and his “Corps” invading some small random town and reeking havoc on them.

Ok now the worst part. Larfleeze himself. He looks like a cuddly plush character in this issue. He should not look clean and cuddly; he should look ragged, dirty and smelly.

While Hal is trying to talk Larfleeze down from his crime spree, Hector Hammond shows up looking for the Orange Entity (Ophidian), which has been trapped in the Orange Lantern, and as Larfleeze admits; it was a bit tricky getting him in there. Hammond is able to free and bond with the entity Ophidian, and he looks awesome!

One last note, we catch up with Saint Walker and Rene Montoya laying the Question’s body to rest, we learn from Walker that earth is blessed as the Blue Entity Adara is here.

The main Green lantern title is shaping up to be the best of the bunch and I can’t wait to see what happens with the Red, Indigo, Violet and Blue Entities. Will the end up captured like Parallax (yellow) and Ion (green)? We will see.
