First ‘Predators’ Movie Poster (PIC)

After the release of the sneak peak behind the scenes footage of Predators, directed by Nimrod Antal and produced by Robert Rodriguez, they have released the first movie poster. The first full teaser trailer is also expected to be released later this week.

Oscar Winning Animated Short ‘LOGORAMA’ (VIDEO)

Check out the entire video for the Academy Award winning animated short Logorama which features hundreds of company logos and mascots in a world where the Michelin Men are cops and Ronald McDonald is a criminal on the run. I’m actually suprised they got away with putting these characters in a negative light with their cursing and criminal action.

I’m not sure how well it falls under parody, since the action/characters aren’t being satirized in relation to what “evils” they actually represent. That being said, it was pretty entertaining watching Ronald McDonald firing a machine gun and take on a Joker like persona. Also they use the same song from Fallout 3 for the ending.

Here is a quote from the animation group H5 that created the animation:

“Logorama presents us with an over-marketed world built only from logos and real trademarks that are destroyed by a series of natural disasters (including an earthquake and a tidal wave of oil). Logotypes are used to describe an alarming universe (similar to the one that we are living in) with all the graphic signs that accompany us everyday in our lives. This over-organized universe is violently transformed by the cataclysm becoming fantastic and absurd. It shows the victory of the creative against the rational, where nature and human fantasy triumph.”

Yeah… I’m not sure I really buy it. To me its an obvious statement to make that corporations and their logo representations and brands are implanting themselves everywhere and in everyone’s lives but applying a fantastical element that is not related/parodying the actual brand doesn’t really do it for me.

‘Kick-Ass’ SXSW Posters (PICS)

Here are three brand new SXSW exclusive posters for Kick-Ass, which will only available in limited edition at the SXSW signing where the cast will be holding a Q+A panel. My favorite is the Red Mist poster. I’ve heard nothing but praise for the film, so I can’t wait to see it and the whirlwind of prepubescent badassery that is Chloe Moretz.

Steven Spielberg To Direct The ‘Robopocalypse’?

Oh God, let that be true for the headline alone!

Drew Goddard, Buffy/Lost vet and co-writer/director of next year’s Cabin In The Woods, has been hired to adapt Daniel H. Wilson’s epic about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising. Wilson hasn’t actually finished writing the novel, but that hasn’t stopped Goddard from starting work on the script. Spielberg is currently hovering around various other projects, but Robopocalypse is being looked at as a “serious candidate.”

Goddard’s a great writer, having already destroyed a city once with Cloverfield. His dialogue is witty without being too witty, and his style would separate this project from the pack. I also, personally, think it would just be awesome to see Spielberg direct a script by Drew Goddard.

Christopher Nolan Talks ‘Inception’, ‘Batman 3′, and ‘Superman’

So, let’s get the big stuff out of the way. You want to know what Inception’s about, don’t you? Let’s be real: that curling city thing — it was hella cool. There are varying spoilers out and about on the internet, but since these came from an interview with Nolan let’s keep the premise cloudy for now. Some movies deserve their mystery. Without saying too much Inception “tells a tale that flips between reality and three levels of dream-time.” It also seems like some sort of murder mystery. Memento gone Matrix?

As for Batman 3, Nolan views the third film as a definitive conclusion to his series. “Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story,” he said. “And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.” Nolan said the key surviving characters from the two first films and the actors who play them will be back. “We have a great ensemble, that’s one of the attractions of doing another film, since we’ve been having a great time for years.”

Nolan’s understandably mum on their choice of villain(s) for the third film, but whoever they choose will have to bring their A++ game. Heath Ledger made The Joker an undeniable force to be reckoned with. Nolan and writer/director David S. Goyer crafted a story, and now brother Jonathan Nolan is struggling with the hard task of turning that into a screenplay and “making it the epic story you want it to be.”

Finally, speaking to rumors of his involvement in a new Superman film Nolan basically confirmed everything. “It’s very exciting; we have a fantastic story and we feel we can do it right. We know the milieu, if you will, we know the genre and how to get it done right. [Goyer] basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman,’” Nolan recalled. “I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma [Nolan's wife and producing partner] and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”

Guess that’s why Goyer couldn’t be bothered running that pesky little Flash Forward show. I think if anyone can make Superman exciting again, it’s Christopher Nolan. Goyer is good when he surrounds himself with good people, so let’s hope this turns into something big. Who do you think should direct the new iteration of Superman? Who should play Superman? I’m personally ready for a middle-aged, Alex Ross inspired Superman myself.

Robert Downey Jr. Finds ‘Gravity’

Robert Downey Jr. is currently in negotiations to headline Alfonso Cuaron’s Children Of Men follow-up Gravity, based on an original script by Cuaron and his son Jonas. Downey would play the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are traveling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite.

The script had been developed originally at Universal with the intention of having Angelina Jolie play the female role (much of the film is devoted to her struggle to get back to Earth and her daughter), but Universal cut it loose and Jolie passed. I couldn’t be happier with this pairing. Cuaron is a powerful storyteller and with the right material, Downey has a Best Actor Oscar in him. I know he does. Downey will shoot the film this Summer before starting work on Sherlock Holmes 2.

David Fincher Continues To Shop ‘Heavy Metal’

David Fincher is a man of great tenacity. He’s relentless. When he sets his eye on something he wants, he won’t stop until he achieves it. And usually he doesn’t just achieve it. He knocks it out of the park. So when David Fincher says he wants to make an R rated, 3D animated anthology film out of the science fiction/fantasy magazine, Heavy Metal, by the power of Zeus — I say let him!

Fincher had the project set up at Paramount with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator and Heavy Metal publisher, Kevin Eastman directing a segment. Tim Miller, who runs Blur Studios, was set to direct a segment as well. His studio was set to handle animation for the project, but there’s no word on whether either of them are still involved. I would assume Eastman is if Fincher’s still shopping.

Fincher will direct a segment, and reportedly has James Cameron and Zack Snyder ready to direct segments of the film aswell. The film would consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each by a different director, “all of them infused with the spirit of the erotic and violent storylines that defined the magazine.” I’m all for this, and I sort of wish more animation houses would create animation for adults. This would be the third film inspired by the magazine series.

Hugo Weaving In Talks To Play Red Skull In ‘Captain America’

Marvel Studios is in “delicate” negotiations with Hugo Weaving to take on the role of Red Skull in Joe Johnston’s upcoming take on Captain America. As the search continues for Steve Rogers (Team Jensen!), it seems Johnston and Weaving must have hit it off working on The Wolfman. I’m totally not opposed to that as long as Weaving reigns in many of his Megatron tendencies. Though, I can honestly say I was much more interested when there were rumors of Christoph Waltz in talks to take the role.

In the Marvel comics, Red Skull has been Captain America’s archenemy since 1941, when he engaged in espionage and sabotage as Hitler’s right-hand man. In his final battle with the superhero, he was buried under the rubble of a bombed building but — as would occur later with Captain America — fell into a state of suspended animation. Both were revived in modern times.

Pixar’s Next Short Film: Day & Night (PIC)

It’s pretty hard not to get psyched about everything Pixar does, because it’s always so excellent. ComingSoon got their hands on promotional artwork for a new Pixar short film which is presumably set to bow before this summer’s Toy Story 3. The short is directed by Teddy Newton, a storyboard artist on The Iron Giant and character designer for The Incredibles/Presto. There’s obviously no telling what Pixar could be up to, but man are already speculating that the short will be in traditional 2D animation.

I’m pretty much sold on whatever Pixar wants to do from now until eternity. Their method is best left untouched, because whatever they’re doing is paying off in a major way.

Disney Closes Robert Zemeckis’ Imagemovers Digital

Walt Disney Studios is shutting down director and producer Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers Digital studio in Marin County, which employs 450 people. Those people will be phased out over the course of a year until January 2011. “Given today’s economic realities, we need to find alternative ways to bring creative content to audiences and IMD no longer fits into our business model,” Disney Studios President Alan Bergman said in a statement.

Imagemovers Digital was primarily focused on motion capture technology. Their first project was The Polar Express, which was then followed by Beowulf and last year’s A Christmas Carol. Closing the studio is a cost-saving move, but it’s not hard to see why Disney would shut it down. These movies are primarily labors of love for Zemeckis to try and refine his mo-cap technology. After Avatar’s success — and after almost a decade of films that have shown minor progress and look almost exactly the same — why not shut it down?

Disney is “hoping to create a long-term production deal” with Zemeckis and his IMD partners which would include the ongoing development of “Yellow Submarine,” although no arrangement has been finalized.

I’m really suprised of how far out they are advertising this movie, considering it won’t be out until December of this year. Here is the final poster for Pixar’s upcoming sequel Toy Story 3. I really enjoy this franchise and with the first two movies I felt they each kept with the same spirit but offered different things and I hope the third lives up to that.

I’m not sure if I will see the movie in 3D or not, as I watched UP in 3D and it didn’t really add that much to the experience (unlike Avatar).

Will you be seeing this in 3D or regular 2D?

‘Halo Reach’ Multiplayer Trailer (VIDEO)

Check out this trailer for the multiplayer component of the upcoming Halo Reach. What’s most interesting in this video is the inclusion of jet packs for players to move around with. Also you can see some of the new weapons that are going to be this prequel game.

While everything looks pretty cool, I’m more interested in seeing the campaign mode and hope that it can add something new to the Halo experience. My guess that it is going to be more combat squad based with perhaps 4 player co-op with actual different styles of players.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Series Picked Up and First Still (PIC)

HBO has picked up Game of Thrones for a 10-episode series based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series A Song Of Ice And Fire.

The cast includes Sean Bean (Lord Of The Rings) and Lena Headey (Terminator SCC).

Bill Murray Confirms ‘Ghostbusters 3′ Rumours?

SPOILER ALERT!

Bill Murray will be hitting David Letterman’s couch tonight (March 1st @ 11:35 PM ET on CBS.), but thankfully you don’t have to wait that long. AICN got a scoop from a trustedsource that was at today’s live taping and dropped in with some interesting tidbits. He confirmed that our beloved Peter Venkman will indeed bite the bullet at the beginning of the proposed third film. Murray seemed skeptical about the project seeing the light of day. The source said Murray delivered the news with a “I’ll believe it when I see it” tone. He also states that Murray enjoyed working on the videogame.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with the project, but I’m not sure how I feel about seeing Murray as a ghost. Apparently, the only way Murray would return to the franchise was if they killed him of in the first reel. Sure, his interactions with Slimer would probably be hilarious but hopefully it’s something organic that has a great deal to do with the story. Ivan Reitman confirmed he’ll be directing the picture, which is being penned by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office).

Here is a really cool but expensive replica of Firefly’s ship “Serenity”. You can have this seriously cool ship with all kinds of lighting effects for $2500. They’re only making 1000 of them so you better hurry up and get one. I’d definitly get one… That is if I was a multimillionaire and wanted to show off my commitment to geekdom.

Check out a video below of the replica and see the lighting effects coming from the ship. However there is a strange choice of a song that goes along with the video.

Here is the first full trailer for the A Nightmare On Elm Street remake starring Jackie Earle Haley, Thomas Dekker, and others. This genre isn’t really up my alley but the trailer does make me interested in seeing this movie despite my aversion to straight up horror movies. What do you guys think?

Here is the full theatrical trailer for the Karate Kid remake movie starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. In this one, it looks like Jackie Chan gets serious about kung fu and seems like he really means what he’s saying. I’m still not sure about this movie however I have a feeling that this will do very well at the box office. I can see a new generation who hasn’t seen the original loving it and watching it over and over again.
