Official ‘A-Team’ Cast Poster (PICS)
Posted on: March 17, 2010No comments yet
Here is the official cast poster for the A-Team movie. I love how the 2nd one is the same as the first one except they just moved everybody in closer with Photoshop. Is it just me or does Bradley Cooper’s head in the first one look gigantic compared to everyone else’s? Then in the 2nd one it’s fine.

First Official ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ Poster (PIC)
Posted on: March 17, 2010No comments yet
Edgar Wright has just debuted the first official poster for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World on his site. The poster premiered at ShoWest 2010 in Las Vegas. The teaser is nothing more than a picture of Michael Cera holding a bass guitar, but hopefully it means that Universal are about to start an aggressive marketing push. I’m personally holding out for a poster with more of the cast. Comic-Con is just a few months away, so I’m really excited that Edgar Wright will bring some footage. And how incredible is that tagline? Scott Pilgrim hits theaters August 13, 2010.

‘Tron: Legacy’ Tidbits (PICS)
Posted on: March 16, 2010No comments yet
AICN contributor Quint recently dropped by Disney Studios to participate in a Tron: Legacy set visit, and was kind enough to report back on his adventure. If you’re a fan of the original at all, or if that trailer didn’t already melt your face, there’s enough geek stuff within to entice you further. I suggest shooting over to AICN for the full article.
-TRON: LEGACY is NOT a mo-cap production. They’re shooting 64 or 65 days with real sets. Obviously blue-screen plays a large role to help create the digital world of Tron, but a lot of real sets are not only built, but used throughout the film.
-When talking to the producers they said they went into this sequel (which holds the record for most time passed between an original film and its sequel, with returning cast, we were told) with the mindset that there were 4 things they owed the fans: Light suits, Jeff Bridges, light cycles and a feeling that this movie is something new just as the original was something no one had seen before. They made mention that Flynn and Clu square off at some point in the movie.
-The film opens in 1989 with Flynn being the super successful head of Encom. He had a child shortly after the events of the first film and reads a bedtime story to the now 7 year old before leaving for the night and disappearing off the face of the earth. The bedtime story is supposed to be an analogy to his work. Encom tries to calm the worry over the company by saying it’s no big deal… Flynn was eccentric, so he probably just went on a sabbatical or something, right? A faction appears contradicting this, sure something is wrong. This group is led by one Mr. Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner).
-The digital Tron world is a creation of Flynn and is hosted on private 1989 servers, not connected to the internet. The producers described this digital world as the computer equivalent of the Galapagos Islands. The digital world has evolved on its own, with no outside influence since Flynn built it. The world of Tron is one big city and the more you get out of the city center you lose definition and symmetry, eventually falling off into the Sea of Simulation according to the production designer, Darren Gilford. He also said there are a lot of soft-cornered hexagons built into the architecture of the world. The world is darker than the previous, with an obvious BLADE RUNNER influence, apt because the designer of Ridley Scott’s futurist world was Syd Mead who also designed much of the original TRON world.
-There’s a stadium where games are played this time out, presided over by Clu. There will also be a new disk game. When asked whether this was the same Clu we saw in the original Tron, producer Sean Bailey only grinned and said “It’s Clu 2.0.” Clu will be portrayed by Jeff Bridges as 1982 Flynn. Confusing?
-New programs also include: Sirens (female programs… in the production art they were mouthless, draped in clear overcoats and pale white with white light lines) and Black Guards, characters that are bulky and armored with translucent blue energy wings, positioned like that of a fly. Clu has a right hand man/program named Rinzler. His light disk splits into two thinner disks. Michael Sheen portrays Castor, owner of the End Of Line Club (!). He has a light-cane, all white outfit and slicked back white hair. (seen in trailer) Daft Punk WILL cameo in Tron: Legacy as DJ’s at the club. Original TRON director, Steven Lisberger, cameos as a bartender. (seen in photo below)
-There is some exploration of the religious undertones of the original, ie The Users.
-Bit will not make an appearance.
-There’s a new Solar Sailor, which looks pretty much like the original, but with a purple color scheme and a thicker middle to hold more programs. Also, look for a vehicle called the Light Runner (seen in the trailer), a low-riding car built for speed, but that turns into a dune buggy type vehicle when off-road. It’s not a drastic change or a morphing thing… essentially the cab sits up a little higher and the wheels sprout ridges like a kleet.
-Another new vehicle was called Clu’s Throne Ship, dark black ship with Clu’s dark orange light scheme… think the basic shape of Luke’s landspeeder, but much larger and as an enclosed ship with glass ceilings. Also there was a little hammerhead-like shape instead of a rounded or pointed front. There was some beautiful artwork of Clu lounging on an obsidian throne in the ship, the world of TRON seen through the large windows above.
-There will be an interim lightcycle, bridging the first movie to the second. The riders are exposed in the 2010 Tron universe, something Steven Lisberger tried to do with the original, but the technology wasn’t there, so they had to dome it, apparently that dome being one of the most complicated effects for the computers to pull off back in the day. So between the old lightcycles and the new, rider-exposed cycles there is one that Flynn rides that is an amalgam of the two, with the newer design and look, but the dome of the original.
-The Recognizors are back and they have a loading system where programs can enter the “feet,” a sort of elevator-like enclosure, that takes them to the bridge. Other than a little more texture and definition they seem relatively unchanged.
-There will be a new video game released at the same time as the new TRON movie. The game developers (Disney’s in-house people) have been working closely with the designers of the movie to really make it a part of the movie experience.
Of course, there’s always the possibility some of this stuff will change but I think this definitely gives us a better view at what Disney is hoping to accomplish with this. Not only do they want to pay respect to the original, they want to honor it by being just as innovative as that feature. I just hope the story stands up to Kosinski’s visuals, which are truly astounding. Can’t wait until December. Click the pics to significantly embiggen.

More ‘Star Wars’ Propaganda Posters (PICS)

Here are some more Star Wars Propaganda artwork, this time from artist Joe Corroney.
While these look cool, I don’t like them as much as previous ones. These seem a lit bit more toned down in terms of the satirizing of the proganda posters of World War II and feel more plain to me.
Here is a link to the previous ones for comparison:

Avatar ‘The Last Supper’ Mashup (PIC)

There has been a recent trend of “Na’vi-tizing” or “Avatarizing” things lately, some because people loved Avatar or some people who didn’t are just mocking the movie. Either way, some of the pictures have been pretty interesting. Here is one that combines the famous The Last Supper painting and the blue colored people of Avatar.

‘Kick-Ass’ SXSW Posters (PICS)

Here are three brand new SXSW exclusive posters for Kick-Ass, which will only available in limited edition at the SXSW signing where the cast will be holding a Q+A panel. My favorite is the Red Mist poster. I’ve heard nothing but praise for the film, so I can’t wait to see it and the whirlwind of prepubescent badassery that is Chloe Moretz.

Pixar’s Next Short Film: Day & Night (PIC)
Posted on: March 12, 2010No comments yet
It’s pretty hard not to get psyched about everything Pixar does, because it’s always so excellent. ComingSoon got their hands on promotional artwork for a new Pixar short film which is presumably set to bow before this summer’s Toy Story 3. The short is directed by Teddy Newton, a storyboard artist on The Iron Giant and character designer for The Incredibles/Presto. There’s obviously no telling what Pixar could be up to, but man are already speculating that the short will be in traditional 2D animation.
I’m pretty much sold on whatever Pixar wants to do from now until eternity. Their method is best left untouched, because whatever they’re doing is paying off in a major way.

When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other’s unique qualities — and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world — the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.

Another ‘Toy Story 3′ Poster (PIC)

Here’s another Toy Story 3 movie poster starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. I find it strange that it the tagline is “The Breakout Comedy Of The Summer”, since it hasn’t really debuted yet and its not summer either.

Hi Rez ‘TRON Legacy’ Billboard #3 (PIC)
Posted on: March 10, 2010No comments yet
Here is a newly released high resolution pic of the latest Tron Legacy billboard art. This one features a battle on the light cycles. I’m really suprised of how far out they are advertising this movie, considering it won’t be out until December of this year. Disney must have high projections for this movie to be putting this amount of money into the marketing.

Here’s a new poster for The Losers starring Zoe Saldana, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, and Idris Elba. Its very similar to a previous released promo pic which was recreation of one of The Losers comic book covers.
From watching the trailer, I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this movie more than the A-Team.

Three New ‘Iron Man 2′ Promo (PICS)
Posted on: March 8, 20102 comments so far (is that a lot?)
Now that the latest trailer has come out, here are three new promo pics for Iron Man 2. To me they look alright, nothing to get too excited over, especially the first two which look a bit stiff. The past promo pictures that have been released have been much cooler, like the Iron Man 2 Empire Cover, The Whiplash Character Poster, and the Iron Man/War Machine promo pic.

Final ‘Toy Story 3′ Poster (PIC)

Here is the final poster for Pixar’s upcoming sequel Toy Story 3. I really enjoy this franchise and with the first two movies I felt they each kept with the same spirit but offered different things and I hope the third lives up to that.
I’m not sure if I will see the movie in 3D or not, as I watched UP in 3D and it didn’t really add that much to the experience (unlike Avatar).
Will you be seeing this in 3D or regular 2D?

I know Valentine’s Day has passed and for some of you it may be a “holiday” you have ill feelings towards. However despite any protests you may have, at least it has done one thing for geeks (specifically LOST fans) and here it is: LOST Valentine’s Day Cards.
My favorite ones are Jack’s, Faraday’s, and Sawyer’s, what about you?

6 New ‘Kick-Ass’ Character Banners (PICS)

Here are 6 new character banners for the highly anticipated Kick-Ass movie which is based on Mark Millar’s comic book series. It’s debuting at SXSW in March, and I’m hoping to be there to catch an early screening of it. I like the first 4, with the splatter paint style head cut outs, but not a fan of the last 2 which are kind of uninspired montage of the characters faces.

Really Cool “Lost Art of Inglourious Basterds” (PICS)
Posted on: February 17, 20102 comments so far (is that a lot?)
Check out these cool posters designed by various artists with their interpretations of Tarantino’s Oscar nominated movie Inglourious Basterds. They were created as part of a way to raise money for the victims of Haiti and can be purchased only in person in Los Angeles tomorrow between 6-9pm. There will only be 6 of each poster and will cost $300. Also each poster will be signed by Tarantino himself.
My favorite one is the one with eagle stabbing the Nazi and his innards running out. (Guess you know where my head is at.) The next two I like the most are the “Hitler as Target Practice” and the “Chopping Off the Hand of Heil Hitler Hand”. The last two don’t reall do anything for me though, they don’t look to add anything different to how you see the movie.
What do you guys think?
