I agree with most of this review. I can't believe everyone one is dissing the crane scene though. I've been reading about a lot of people hating on that scene, but I thought it was dope. It let Peter (and the audience) know that the city was backing him and I thought it was a good way to show that and gave another opportunity for some cool looking scenes. I think overall the movie was good… better than good. I think the few little corny parts in this new Spiderman does not hold a candle to the super corny parts in the old movies. The movie was slow paced at first, but once he became Spiderman it felt he was in that suit every 5 minutes or so. Really looking forward to the next one where they hopefully jump right into the action.
I really enjoyed this too. In the run up I was really on the fence about it but after watching it,, overall I really enjoyed it.
I liked the different take on the story, so for a number of times you didn't know what was around the corner, the pacing was good, the action was good, it felt more modern and the cast was damn near perfect. I will not hear a negative word on about the cast.
Don't get I wrong I do think there are a lot of problems. I can nitpick and point out the flaws all week but unlike some of the people who are really hating this I'm looking at it in a different way. For me it has all the pieces. They are rough around the edges but they are all there. Much like the first film 10 years ago. Really would like to see where the sequel takes the story.
I do have two major problems that I will voice
SPOILERY CONTENT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET.
That Crane scene is pretty bad. I hate to beat on it this much when I know people like it but it's just horrible. It's ludicrous and comes from nowhere I get what they were trying to do, show that the people are for Spiderman but wow that hurt to watch. They went too big too big too early, something like this would be better attempted for the sequel.
Really disappointed with the departure of one character at the end too. I would liked to see them do something similar to the Spectacular Spiderman cartoon with them. But the route they went I can't help but think that they were rendered superfluous.
And another minor thing. I am so gutted that Eddie Brock didn't get a mention. If he was mentioned early on I think a good attempt at an on screen venom could be done. But I don't think it should happen now cause you need a bigger build up for him and if it hasn't been started now you're rushing the rest of it.
No Eddie how about no MJ, Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, or J. Jonah Jameson. In my opinion the symbiot saga was always more of a man verse himself story and less of Spider-Man verse Venom story anyway. They could easily leave Venom out of the movie until an epic post credit scene where Eddie slowly transforms into Venom as he curses Spider-Man for ruining his life. In fact I suspect they will have a time skip for the second movie in which Peter will work for the Daily Bugle and Eddie will be introduced. So like how they set the second movie up for Green Goblin they’ll similarly set the third movie up for Venom. Great now I’m all excited for a third movie with Venom that I have to wait years to even find out if they’ll even make it.
the crane scene imo was amazing and very emotional. IT WAS COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED, considering spiderman saved the guys son that was helping him.

I thought the movie was amazing. I left the theater feeling very satisfied and content. Spider-Man was very good and a close second but the Avengers movie is still number one. I particularly liked how the characters weren’t stereotypes but felt very natural. It was almost less a super hero movie and more a slice of life. As for issues with the movie I really had none. Sometimes I think fans won't be happy till they find a flaw. There are always some flaws in even the best movie, but when there so minor I rather focus on the things they did right. The crane scene in particular strikes me as an odd thin to pick at. It made sense in context, wasn't technically infeasible, and demonstrated the love side of the love hate relationship Spider-Man has always had with the public. All in all I think the movie felt much more like the Ultimate Spider-Man comics or at least the portion I've read with Miles.
Liked the actors for spidey and Gwen better than Tobey and Kristen. Agree about not expecting much from this and it was pretty good above my expectations. Also like how you guys were wearing a Superman and Batman shirts while talking about a marvel movie.
The Amazing Spiderman – really enjoyed this one. The origin story is changed enough to make it fresh – though the more familiar version done by Raimi resonates more emotionally.
Garfield is fantastic as Peter Parker. Emma Stone is too as Gwen Stacy – and thankfully Gwen is not cast in the damsel in distress role but actively contributes to the resolution of the climax. Their scenes together really spark.
This movie is really well cast with Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, and Rhys Ifans putting in good to great work. Sally Fields does not get much to do but I suspect that her turn is yet to come.
As much as I enjoyed Garfield's turn as Parker, the advances in SFX since the last Raimi Spidey flick captured Spidey's full range of abilities for the first time. Not only are the web swinging scenes exhilarating but his speed and agility is displayed too. All done with a sense of weight and inertia not possible apparently with the previous trilogy. There is one fight scene in the school corridor that really displays this beautifully. The Lizard SFX were dodgy at times but never took me out of the movie because by the point I was into the characters and story.
I really, really like this one. Place it behind Spidey 2 for now. Need time to let it settle in my mind before rendering a final verdict.
Liked it enough to be seeing it a second time on Saturday – this time in UltraAVX. Can't wait to see this on in a better viewing environment.
Finally, this one left me anticipating the sequel – always a good sign.
I loved the movie. The only thing I didn't like was that some of the clips in the trailer and one clip with the door man was cut from the final story. The after credits was horrible and confusing. The best part of the movie was Stan lee cameo!

I like the crane scene. This Spiderman was way better then Raimi one.
Come on you guys! The crane scene is dumb. You're telling me, that they could coordinate that effort in the time it took for all of that to happen? C. Thomas Howell, found out what was happening from a news cast? Are you telling me, that CBS or whoever, knew what was going on, where Spiderman was heading, knew he was injured and coordinated the effort to align the cranes to help? Not that there wasn't, you know, "BUILDINGS" already there that he could swing from? And let's be honest, we all know it takes Union Workers forever, to do anything. D-U-M-B. That scene should have been stricken from the record.
I liked the movie.Despite the fact that I wasnot a loyal reader to the comic I knew that it was a more close to the original comic plot than the Raimi movie.There was more character development,good acting and I loved the last scene that spoils who will probably be the villain at the next movie!!
