“Stay away from my dad’s ex-girlfriend!”
The tides have definitely turned as Amon and his Equalist forces attempt to take control of Republic City for themselves in this latest episode of The Legend of Korra. Family and friendship have always been at the forefront of this franchise, and it shined brightly throughout this episode. Asami Sota may have been giving Mako and Korra glaring looks, but a teen love triangle is no match for the birth of a baby boy. Amidst the destruction and chaos, family came first for Tenzin, and in the end, it seems that Korra has finally learned patience. This episode felt like “The Empire Strikes Back,” as our beloved heroes were running out of places to hide. Seeing the son of Aang in action is always exhilarating, but watching his kids use their air bending abilities was one of this week’s highlights. Like Korra, the children are more aggressive than tactful, but their efficiency at dispatching the bad guys can’t be denied. The look of shock of Lin Beifong’s face was priceless as she was rescued by the youngsters. Meelo is my favorite of Tenzin’s children, so I was pleased to see his slow motion action sequence, and he had one of the best quotes in the episode as he told his future sibling, “Not now baby!”
If family and friendship are the bedrock of The Last Airbender saga, then sacrifice is its cornerstone. Lin Beifong’s selfless heroics to save Tenzin and his family were nothing short of legendary. There is no question that she is Toph’s daughter, and watching her single-handedly take down one of Amon’s blimps shows just how awesome she truly is. What do you think is in store for Lin’s future? As tough as she is, I don’t see her giving up anytime soon, and I wanted to ask you all about a theory I have. If Aang and Amon have the ability to take away someone’s bending, can they give it back? Again, this is just a question, I have nothing to base it on other than speculation, but I would love to hear what you all think.
In case you were worried, I didn’t forget about the big reveal at the end of “Turning the Tides.” It looks like Team Avatar is going to need some help, so it’s a good thing that the allied forces, lead by General Iroh are on their way to Republic City. With Tenzin and Lin appearing to be in their early fifties, I would assume that this young general is Fire Lord Zuko’s grandson. If you have any other theories, or you think I’m completely off-base, please share your thoughts with me in the comments section below. The hour-long season finale for Book One premiers next week. How do you think it will all end?
-Interesting Fact: Dante Basco (Hook, ATLA) will be voicing the young General Iroh in The Legend of Korra.

This series has been amazing, especially the last couple episodes. I am dying to find out who Amon is, but I hope the reveal is not a letdown. Poor Lin. I also had the thought that perhaps Korra will be able to restore bending at some point. I just wish she would go into the Avatar state and take care of business.
I told u guys we were only getting 13 episodes
The creators made it clear when they annouced the series that it was going to be a short run but it would be amazing if they did more books or chapters lol whatever they call it.
There was a whole lot of love triangles going on this episode but all that drama was completely balanced out by some raw and incredible action scenes!
Beifong's sacrifice reminded me of the last airbender's finale… didn't toph do the same thing?
Who is the antibender with the moustache? He keeps showing up n getting facetime as if he's a person of interest.
I always wondered if that's how Aang would restore the air nomads but seeing how he didn't do that I kinda have my doubts whether anyone has the power to create benders.
Last thing is did I miss last weeks Young Justice n Korra reviews?
the Anti-bender mustache guy is Asami's dad and he's responsible for creating the equalist tech
and i hope next season will be set outside republic city
not him lol the skinny one, the fighter… He's in the poster beside the review. A second season would be awesome! Also assuming General Iroh is indeed a teen, I could totally see him being Asami's rebound
Yeah Rev, you're right. I was swamped last week with finals and graduation. Family was in town as well, so I couldn't get to the reviews, but I'm back on schedule now
Well congratulations on all your personal accomplishments
I was totally waiting to hear what you thought of last weeks Young Justice episode though… I think it was the most revealing yet! Think Hero reviews have become a part of my whole viewing experience… watching my favorite shows just ain't the same for me without a good review or discussion after.^_^
This was such a good episode all along i'v been so worried that there moving things along too fast but i didn't know the season only lasted for 12 episode so now i don't mind as much cause i thought the blood bending story line coulda woulda and shoulda been longer but i still hope it comes up again soon.
to Answer your question yes am 90% sure for three reasons :1. this even being as sophisticated and original as it is it's still a kid show and they have to have no sad or really realistic ending that's why Aang never killed the fire lord. 2. this is Avatar/Asian world one of the messages they keep trying to push is that there is a Balance to everything so no i don't think Amon can or would return bending but am positive Korra can.3: in next week's trailer we see Amon take or try to take her bending away and am pretty sure that not going to work am even going to go further and say she's going to enter the Avatar state and end this war Book earth season finally style (that means she's going to fight the ships and maybe turn into a huge monster) and hopefully return all the bending thats been lost
P.S am so happy they brought in someone from not the island cause i'v been wanting that so bad but here what bugs me ; as any true Avatar fan can tell , Iroh's voice actor Dante Basco is the same voice actor who voiced Zuko and it feels so out of place not because i know its Zuko's voice but because General Iroh looks to be in his Mids 30s-early 40s why the hell does he have the voice of a teenager!!
Fart-bending For. The. Win!!!
Great ep. Poor Asami. Awesome Lin. Impressive Tenzin. Funny Milo. Stupid Mako.
Pretty cool episode, was sad to see lin lose her bending so Im a little hopefully korra can find a way to bring the bending back(since amon is prolly not energy bending to begin with). Can't wait for next week saturday, the hour long finale should be quite the spectacle.
I wonder who the enemy is gonna be for season 2, nick ordered 14 extra episodes so it should be interesting to see what they focus on.
Loved reading everyones reviews. I'm still racking my brain with who amon is!
I hope we find out who he is in the finale
I really hope Korra DOESN'T go into the Avatar state for the finale. It would be so wrong. Aang was raised among monks, the Air Nomads, the most spiritual element of all. So he would slip into the Avatar state whenever emotionally distressed. Korra can't move a speck of air and hasn't experienced anything spiritual in her entire life. Her going into the avatar state makes no sense whatsoever. She still can't move a speck of air. This episode is my second favorite after episode 2. There's too much modern and not enough mythology. I feel like so many issues are going unspoken of. I loved Korra's line in episode not sure, when she says to Tenzin "Maybe the reason I haven't been able to airbend is because I don't need it!" Can you imagine how much that hurt? This episode was also the first one to acknowledge the significance of Tenzin's family of airbenders, as pointed out by Lin. Tenzin's initial hatred of pro-bending pointed out the issue of tradition vs new. However, since episodes 1 and 2, I don't feel that the series has made full use of this social conflict. I notice the little things. I liked the "Everyone fell off Naga so we took the AcaCar instead" because it made use of this conflict. Fire benders being hired for electricity is another way bending has been transformed to fit in modern times. It's not the revered art it used to be. Bending is also used for minimum wage labor too. I think another "serious" issue the series can discuss in further detail is why Tenzin chose to marry a non-bender over a bender, and why Mako is drawn to Korra, a bender, over Asami, a non-bender. The Legend of Korra has felt rushed to me. Just 3 more episodes would have been nice. What some people call filler, I call fleshing characters out. I love Meelo. He is the most exciting out of all the kids and he gets the best lines. "You're a terrible teacher daddy!" "Not now, baby!" He also sounds A LOT like Aang which I love <3. In any case, I really hope the season finale is full of twists and turns, exciting fights, and tugs at my heart strings. I really want LOK to end with a bang. And I hope season 2 is even better.
one more thing, the end killed me! Genreal Iroh!?!?!?!?!! Hell yeah baby! I <3 you Zuko and Zuko's grandson!!! I hope ZuZu is still alive!! My one quelp is that, even though I love Dante Basco, I REALLY don't like his voice for this character. Because his voice is the voice of Zuko and whenever I hear him, I see Zuko. When I first saw Iroh, I thought he would have a deep clear authoritative voice. Dante's voice doesn't give me that impression.
in any case, here's to a great finale!
Great comments Lauren! I agree totally with the “avatar state” thesis and “tradition versus modern” dissertation.
