“Blood is thicker than seawater”
In last week’s episode of Young Justice I was worried that M’gann had gone dark side, but it seems like Aqualad has taken the word “dark” to a whole other level, by abandoning the team completely. Again, in a very subtle way we’re learning more about the mystery of what has transpired over the past five years. It was sad to hear about Aqualad’s old girlfriend dying on a mission, and I couldn’t help but wonder how awesome it would have been to watch Aquagirl in action with the rest of the team. For those of you who are DC Comics aficionados, you’ll remember another version of Aqualad named Jackson Hyde from the “Brightest Day” series written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Ivan Reis. Hyde first appeared in issue #4, and we soon learned that his father was indeed Black Manta. I think it’s cool that Young Justice is following the stories from the comic books, even after DC’s relaunch last year. Some of you had fears that the character development from season one would suffer, due to the five-year gap between seasons. Have your fears subsided after the first three episodes, or do you feel that there are too many characters? Personally, I hope the writers give us more backstory on Kaldur. Going from a strong team leader, to working alongside one of the most dangerous villains in the DC Universe is a huge leap, and I want to see how it all took place, and not just hear about it through conversations.
I still want to discuss Miss Marian’s lobotomizing/interrogation techniques, which she uses again in this episode. It was a small scene, but just seeing the shock on Connor’s face said it all. The sweet little “Hello, Megan” girl he knew no longer exists. What also interests me about the scene was that Superboy was the only one who seemed to care. I guess that makes sense, because we all know that Bruce has a bit of a dark side to him. I hope you all don’t think I’m thrashing M’gann, because she’s trying to protect Earth from an alien invasion, so if poking around someone’s mind is what she has to do, then so be it. These are the morally ambiguous choices that make good storytelling so much fun to watch, just check out a show like HBO’s Game of Thrones and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Speaking of brainwashing, if you’re interested in reading a good comic book series that deals with similar issues, then check out ”Identity Crisis,” written by NY Times best-selling author Brad Metzler. All I’ll say is that moral ambiguity reigns supreme in that 7-issue miniseries.
In closing I’d like mention the exciting battle between the Justice League, the Kroloteans and Black Manta’s forces. Did any of you notice the improved camaraderie between Superboy and Superman? Watching the two of them fight as a team was highly entertaining. Another memorable moment was when Wonder Girl was enraptured by Princess Diana’s fighting style only to hear her mentor say, “A little less fan girl, and a little more Wonder Girl.” Even with the large time gaps between seasons, this has been an enjoyable start for Young Justice and I hope it continues to get better with each new episode. Let me know what you thought of “Alienated” in the comments section below.

The dynamics between Superman and Superboy were awesome, it goes to show that there is alot more to be told within this season. I was really excited to see the Batman family duke it out as well. But when I saw Kaldur take off the Manta helmet, I was like WOAH. Indeed, dark has been taken to another level. M'Gann's powers are also (from what it looks like) starting to become greater than that of J'onns. After everything that has gone on in this episode, I was really impressed with how it ended. The 6 leaguers that went missing 5 years previously for 16 hours, and how they kind of leave earth in the hands of Nightwing and the Young Justice. Very powerful. Great episode.
Great insights! I'm looking forward to seeing where this season will take us. I hope it gets renewed for another season. With a new Batman series premiering next year, anything can happen. Thanks for checking out the review.
so this is something that i noticed and i don't know if this is accident or homage , but did any body else notice that the justice leaguers what went to the pay for the sixteen hours are the same roster from justice league the tv show on cartoon network , i thought that was fun
I agree, sometimes it feels like Young Justice is just an excuse to have the Justice League on TV again. Not that I'm complaining
I loved that show!
The series is really doing a good job in changing the storyline. I say this only as an opinion, but shows like Young Justice, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and (yes I will go there) Ultimate Spider-Man are not being given the credit by the comic book or televsion fans because they can act like obnoxious purists. I really respect the writers, creators, and the producers of these shows for challenging how we view cartoons today._Plus, I can't wait for the showdown between Aqualad and the Team!
Ultimate Spider-Man?!?! look am the first one to call out a fan boy when they get all high and mighty saying things don't go their way they'll stop watching the show and its going to get cancelled ; how ever is no where near the same level as, Avengers yes that is on as good as Avatar: The Legend of Korra & Young Justice but Ultimate Spider-Man , c'mon i don't think even they take themselves seriously.
-Sorry that was atrociously edited doesn't make sense

Maybe its budget cuts or somethign but did anyone else notice they didn't give robin, or batgirl a single line?
Kaldur becoming the Black Manta, the showing of his fight skills and growth in power were mind blowing. I was so impressed that i watched the episode about three times back to back. Nightwing was also super impressive with the showing of his growth and even as reluctant adversaries Kaldur and Nightwing still have a bond of brotherhood. This is one of the best shows ever produced.
i like the series but the time jump is starting to feel really jarring, all this character development that we never get to see and where supposed to just go along with it? it has one of the same problems that revenge of the fallen had and i fear the next avengers movie might have, to many characters not enough time to flesh them out so we just get shadows of who they really are. last season we got to know our tight nit group of heroes and here there's just so much going on and very little explanation. also where the hell is kid flash and red arrow? and artemis?
give it time , don't judge it until the season's over they got like 20 more episodes to go , I AM POSITIVE that we will find out where they are , just like we learned where Khal was , and to be honest i think there out hunting for the real red arrow
I agree with "confused fan". It is not so much as where are kid flash, red arrow, and artemis go (even though artemis was my favorite)… I'm sure they are not cut out completely, but it feels like it was too much of an intake for new members in the group. I miss the tight nit group! With the small group, it was more of a mission and an adventure, now it has a "Men in Black" feel with everyone having drama. There's a reason why Marvel is great, and DC is still trying to hang in there. The Avengers are a tight nit group, and the Justice Leagues have a bunch of heroes that are seem to run as a corporate business. I just hope that "Antemiusenteri" is right in that we will find out where the rest of the Season One Young Justice members disappeared to.
This show is awesome. Though I still feel it needed a second season of growth for the original team. Then they could have done a quick montage torward the end of season 2 for a final time skip. That would have worked much better. And it would perhaps have given them room to make the time jump slightly longer….say 7 to 8 years so that the Jason Todd storyline could be easily incorporated (truth be told….I'd love to see Nightwing & Red Hood go at it like they did in "Battle for the Cowl"). During the first 2 episodes (and even slightly through this awesome 3rd episode), I kept telling myself…."Just wait….you know you trust the writters…yeah, that right….you trust them". I still trust them, but another part of me, even through this 3rd episode, still want to bash their heads in. The only way I could forgive them is if they had no choice. If the studio said, hey it's only 20 episodes…..take it or leave it….well, then I might be easier on them.
But in the end, I'm really happy with the way they are doing Dick Grayson, both as Robin & as Nightwing! He is just sooooooooo Badass! My 2 favorite moments are when Aqualad escapes underground only to find Nightwing already ahead of him, and coming forth from the darkness. The way Nightwing then said "Kaldur" at that moment was absolutely perfect. The second moment was when Batman said "You Heard Nightwing! Move!" Batman has no doubts or hesitations with Nightwing's leadership decisions, and I think that's AWESOME! WRITTER'S……..MORE EPIC NIGHTWING MOMENTS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
Im honestly a little disappointed with season 2 right now, granted I think it's because Kid Flash and Artemis were my favorites and all the romance was great to watch. I really really hope they come back in. Also Nightwing is awesome, I kinda want to see his how his romance went though… idk I have high hopes, but still not sure if it can live up to the awesomeness that was the first season of YJ.
Well, the good news is we still have 17 episodes left this season
Thanks for checking out the review, and hopefully we'll see Kid Flash and Artemis soon.
