Here is me and David’s review of the highly anticipated The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Sam Jackson, Scarlett Johannson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston.
The review is SPOILER FREE. Have you seen it and what did you think?

I completely agree with your review. It was an A rating for me. To me it just felt like a comic book that came to life. The action was just awesome the CGI was great. However, I agree we need more hulk. It would have being great to have the hulk say "puny human".
He did say puny god when he smashed Loki to bits
ruffalo was great as hulk and banner
I watched it six times in a row and then I threw up.
'''''''SPOILERS'''''' I think your completely off on the story being weak , because the story isn't about the invasion. its about the team coming together that's it. the invasion is just comic chocolate goodness . And there is character development all over this film. Cap rejoins the world , tony puts him self one the line, Thor / Loki dynamic, banner not being too afraid of the "other guy"'
BEST COMIC MOVIE THAT'S NOT ASHAMED OF BEING BASED ON COMICS. FULL TILT BADASS
It is by far the most entertaining movie I have ever seen. Going in I expected the witty repartee between the characters that Whedon is famous for but it far exceeded my expectations. I heard more laughter during the movie then any comedy I've seen in the theaters. Given the inherent difficulties of making an Avengers movie I say it was not only the best Marvel movie but best comic movie to date.
I woundn't go as far as the New York Times critic A.O.Scott who descibes the movie as a "snappy little dialogue comedy dressed up as a giant ATM for Marvel and Disney Company". I overall enjoyed the movie, it's funny moments like when an angry Hulk delivers a smackdown on Loki and it's action sequences. However, and I very much agree with Dennis on that, the movie was weak on character development and as often in SciFi/fantasy movies nowadays, the movie is constructed so as to try to impress the audience with an avalanche of action sequences and special effects. So, I definitively enjoyed the two hours of the movie but in two weeks time, Iprobably will have forgotten about it.
I seen the movie 3 times already..lol I was a great movie, I had a blast. I give it a A.
This movie was sooo much fun. I agree that the plot wasn't spectacular, but I didn't even care. Watching these awesome characters interact was more than enough for me. Joss Whedon really nailed it!
Speaking of Joss Whedon, when are you guys gonna do a video review of The Cabin in the Woods?!?! Seems right up thinkhero's alley.
Yeah I think we will shoot a Cabin in the Woods review, just need to see it first hahaha
Dennis
Cabin in the Woods is a great movie!!
The Avengers was a superb movie. And why should we be surprised when we know that Joss Whedon is behind it. He managed to successfully juggle all the characters, have a decent plot (the plot really is the team coming together), funny LOL moments and loads of action. Mark Ruffalo was great as David Banner and some of the funniest moments feature The Hulk.
As for it's ranking I think that X-Men II is the best comic book adaptation (although I don't think it's a Marvel adaptation).
Big question. After the credits rolled there is another scene where the evil mastermind is revealed (kinda). Is he The Beyonder? If so Part II may be "Secret Wars".
Best comic book adaptions to date: 1) X-Men II 2) The Avengers 3) Iron Man I, 4) Spider Man II, 5) Thor
I know it's only an opinion, but I feel compelled to respond.
Thor was a lot of things, but fifth best comic book adaptation is not one of them.
OK then what is? I am open to suggestions.
Well, if I had to keep your list, but only change Thor I could replace it with Spiderman 1, either of Nolan's Batmans, either of Burton's Batmans, Captain America, X-Men 1 or even 3, either Hellboy, Superman 1,2, or Returns(I know this is controversial, but I have a soft spot for Bryan Singer and giant Kryptonite Landmasses), Watchman, V for Vendetta, or The Incredible Hulk without losing much sleep. And thats just off the top of my head.
Admittedly, I have a strong dislike for Thor. I just thought it was boring, but maybe that's just me.
You're right. What was I thinking? Thor was good but I would put The Dark Knight (Batman II) in there.
I wonder when arewe goingto see DC's answer to The Avengers – The Justice League? Green Latern came out (and sucked), there is soon to be another Superman movie. Batman III is out this summer.
Joss Wheadon was writing a script for Wonder Woman but the studio shelved it. Maybe now they will change their mind after seeing the success of The Avengers
This movie was awesome! Of couse the whole plot was a little short, but with Joss Whedon at the helm, the two hours are worth it.
Plus the second post credit scene lol!!! Now I know what superheroes do in their spare time after saving the world
The Avengers really does seem to balance all the main things that could have made it great, including the expectations of comic book readers / marvel fans, and then the general public
Another thing to think about – what should be the lineup for part II? They will probably do some tinkering. I like Thor and wantto see Thor II but he can be dropped. I would love to see Vision and The Wasp in the next movie.
They could make Vision in the image of the now deceased Agent Coulson and Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) would be a great Wasp.
Suddenly the regular go-to Shawarma became a little bit more awesome
