Arya could find no better brother in her time of need than Gendry
Dany is truly a strong female character
Litterfinger is a pimp
Davos is in my opinion Ned 2.0
Jon Snow is tough, he'll make it
Theon's family is interesting: Balon's a dick, Yara is awesome, but that trick with Theon was…just wrong
There's more to the Red Priestess than meets the eye.
And Tyrion is a badass. Period. Bronn too.
My player of the week and throughout this entire series is definitely Tyrion, because he proves that you don't need an Iron Throne to rule over all.
PS. Great review from Roth and Jenna. They are awesome(and probably compete for the Iron Throne)!
Thanks Michael! We really appreciate that. I can't wait until you see Brienne of Tarth next week!!!!
Thank you very much sir! Jenna and I have been inspired to talk about which character we would be and if we would survive on the show right now! I think I might end up beheaded lol.
What surprises me still in this series is that the female characters are so strong.
We have characters like Cersei and Dany (the two most visible ones) but then theres Catelyn, Arya, Yara/Asha, and later on still more. It's an interesting thing to see that it's often the women that come out on top, and maybe it's because they're able to see things more clearly than the men?
At this point I'm rooting for the Stark kids as they each start to transform into different people, in their own ways (no spoilers, I promise). I also think Tyrion is damn awesome. Smart, ruthless but decent. I love Melisandre and that air of mystery and danger that seems to follow her everywhere. I mean, let's be honest, she practically screams bad guy, but then, she could surprise us.
I'm so very curious about the number of people who have not actually read the books but who watch the show.
I'm having such a hard time because I think I would have preferred to see a massive series of movies instead of the series, I just don't feel like the show is doing any justice to the books. Too fast, too breezy over the better points, and it all goes by so fast there is no time to invest in the characters in any way.
This show shows a very brutal world. It's all about power. In the 2 eps my favoutirte scene was that between the blond queen and Petyr Baelish when he told her ''knowledge is power''.Her answer was dierct. With a blade in his neck and his life at stake he learned that ''power is power''.Anyway ,Baelish,Varys and Grand Maester are the characters I despise most in the series!!!
Again great review guys! As i have mentioned before i have not read the books but i think i need to cuz its hard to keep up with the numerous characters. i like that when you guys mention a character you show the picture. it really helps. I did not even pick up on little fingers conversation with the whore, but after ur review it now makes sense. oh boy! this episode i dont even know where to begin. infact it was a great episode; i can't wait for sunday i need to see what happens to Jon Snow. Tyrion is definitely playing the game he is one of my favorite characters and this week he definitely worn my heart again. lord stannis and the red head interesting; i wonder what she is up to cuz i know she is up to something. I felt so bad for Dany this episode poor thing its like the world is on her shoulders but i know she will make it through she is a strong lady.
I was wondering how u posted the recap the same day they showed the epi?…..i think i know why….u saw it on HBOGo last monday after the first epi, right?……is HBOGo showing the next epi beforehand every week?…..:)……
I really enjoy watching your reviews for the insight and how your enthusiasm comes across in the video which is harder to convey if it was a written review … unless you put lot of smiley faces :p
. My player of the week is Tyrion!
Some thoughts. I have read the books and sadly many of the changes made from the book are wierd. The changes feel like the overly simplifies narrative points or are just added for visual flair at the cost of the narrative._Stannis having sex with Melisandre for example, that is so out of character for Stannis it mindboggling, all she could provide him is a bastard and for such a just and rigid character as Stannis he would never compromise his character with a child out of wedlock. _It also feels like it deminishes Melisandre to yet another woman using sex as a powertool, she has faith and magic and Stannis ambition to play towards, why bring sex into it?__I have no trouble seeing Ros dieing, she feel more like naked filler, not a plotmover.__Player of the week, Varys he knows how to make veiled threats and really is a spider.
HBO is definitely the right place to tell this story but there is so much in the books that even 12 one hour episodes can't capture it all so I don't have a problem with simplification. However, I agree completely that this is an extreme departure of character for Stannis and it does reduce Milisandre.
I wish HBO would use 20 episodes per season so that they could have rampup. So much is going to happen that I think they are going to start losing nuance.
You're absolutely right. Another example like that – in the previous episode Littlefinger was out of character threatening Cersei (even though she started it). He would never do that, he's been in court many years and he's too smart to do that. I really liked the debate of "Knowledge is Power" vs "Power is Power" and Cersei was on fire that scene, a really powerful and well acted scene, but still it felt completely wrong for Lord Baelish.
I felt like this episode was a it ehhh….. Like all the stories when by so fast it was hard to care for one. I did like it over all but I think episode one was better. Also I'm very confuse with the whole situation with the new religion I m not sure what's going on there
I have to agree with maytrows in that they've made some unusual changes from the book. Small things but they still make you question what they were thinking. With such rich source material why would they bother tweaking? I still trust in the writer's decisions and this still remains to be one of the best shows on TV.

Tyrion. Always Tyrion as Playah of the Week.
The deviations from the book grow larger each episode. I'm excited to see what they will do but I'm a little bit worried that thay will change it too much. Varys nailed it this episode, he didn't flinch when Tyrion answered him, he kept his smile and said "the big fish eat the little fish, and I keep on paddling". What a great line. The good news – we get to see more White Walkers
(but I think that in the books it was the Wights and not the Others that took the babies, according to Gilly)
