I just got back from Wonder Con 2012 and saw this beautiful trailer for ‘Prometheus’ in 3D. Believe me when I say that it looked even better in three dimensions. Like Peter Jackson and James Cameron, Sir Ridley Scott knows how to use 3D technology, and I would suggest that you all go see it in IMAX 3D when it’s released on June 8, 2012. What do you think of the trailer?

Looks intense. Hopefully it will be intense. Still I really want to where it's place is with Alien. I hope it's as separate as possible because if it's banking on it's connection to Alien it could end up being all over the place.
No doubt it is connected to 1979's Alien, as seemingly the U shaped alien ship is the same one the Nostromo crews discovered. Your hope of "as separate as possible" will only be the time element . According to the almighty Wikipedia, the movie is set in 2085, 30 years prior to Alien.
I can see your fear of "it ended up being all over the place"… But I have faith in Ridley Scott and Lost's co-creator Damon Lindelof to deliver a satisfying Alien origin. And I hope this movie will sever the tie with that Predator's "thousands of years old rite of passage alien hunting" story we've seen from AVP franchise. LOL did I need a spoiler alert warning for that?
