Chin Han, I'm guessing he was cast for this role because he's good with Calculation. (Please don't throw stuff at me.)
Anyway I loved the Astrid parts. Really didn't care for the rest. But given that this episode was supposed to have a stronger focus on Astrid they at least got it right. Though listening to your review I'm thinking I should watch this was again soon. When I was watching it I was more focused on Astrid I missed the depth ethics, and the philosophy of the rest it.
And yes, Give John Noble his well deserved recognition and Anna Torv but mostly John Noble.
One of the things I really like about this season is the subtle changes they show that exists in this universe but not in the original. Like in this episode, when alternate Astrid shows up in Walter's lab and he calls her Astro, she corrects him (something that this Astrid doesn't do but the original did in practically every episode).

The use of timelines & universes can be misleading because Peter is home.
