Here is the first official trailer for highly anticipated The Hunger Games. What do you think? Were you a fan of the book series? Do you think it has the same tone as the books?

This looks awesome! I never read the books, but I love this kind of story that reminds me of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" and Stephen King's "The Long Walk", or movies like "Battle Royal" and "The Running Man". I'm looking forward to watching this.
Not completely impressed with the trailer, but the setting/tone seems to hit the right mark. But honestly for the most part, the trailers say nothing to me about the movies. The cast, writers, and director are all great so hopefully that will translate.
Trailer looks pretty much in line with the first half of the first book. I loved the book series, so I'm hoping these movie adaptations go well. Second book was the best, so hopefully the franchise does well enough with the first one to be able to make the sequels.
They already set a date for the release of Catching Fire! Super excited.
I think it looks great, actually. Some of the casting I was questionable about (Lenny Kravitz) didn't even bother me in this trailer and I'm actually on board with them. Jen is going to be a great Katniss. I'm excited!
I love the books but Is everyone blind? Looks like an episode of Terranova with the production value of City of Ember (which was also a piece of shit)
Robin you are absolutely right. 'Twilight' suffers from this same dilemma. The movie makes so much money, but they don't put that money back in the film, so it looks cheap. I saw Immortals this weekend, and you can tell they invested a lot of money in the project. It's funny if you think about it, because 'The Hunger Games,' and 'Twilight' will both make more than 'Immortals,' but they still won't invest in the movie properly. Thanks for your comment
I think the studios are worried about losing money…
Right-o! Can I get witness!
I don't know, the theme of the movie is too wierd – watching kids killing each other in the forest and it looks like a 2 parts special of Sliders or a Twilight wannabe, not the most anticipated movie of the year..
I read the 1st book on which this movie is based. It looks like they got the tone right. I will read "Catching Fire" and "Mockingbird" over the holidays.
Definitely is following the first book. Not really digging the cast choices for the leads.
I love this series of books, but the trailers I've seen don't seem to fill me with the same enthusiam. I'm worried this film won't have the same pulsing heart as the books. But I really like Jennifer Lawrence so I hope it's successful.
I started giving the film a bit more attention the more news that trickled and then when this trailer arrived I thought screw it, I was able to get all three books for less than $10. I just finished the books now and I rather liked them. I don't think they're the best books out there nor do I think it's as good as Battle Royale but they were an entertaining read. There was always something for me to like through all three.
But looking at the film trailer now… ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I can't say it looks quite as interesting now. I'm not quite sure what it is but I can't help but think that something has been lost from the translation from book to film.
