Lengthy thoughts. Must split comments. Great review Roth and Jenna. I love when you post them early in the week! I know better than to hope for the finale to make more sense than this episode. Book number four is my favorite, and it's taken me all this time to not crazy rant right after the episodes.
I have come to understand that Show Sookie will never be as smart or gutsy as show Sookie. Okay, can we talk about Martonia saying she used to be a doormat? I wonder if this is a hint that Sookie the Doormat will eventually rebel and have an angry moment similar to Sam's last season. I would take any action from her. I can't believe she hustled out when Marnie said, "The vampires seem to like you. Come with me." And you're completely right about her pep talks. She should know by now, they don't work. Not even on Amnesiac Eric! I was surprised that she didn't do anything as Bill and Eric planned to kill themselves, although I wasn't sure if they had wooden bullets or not. I was also surprised that she didn't try to save herself from the fire or that that didn't trigger her magic hands.
Thanks! Good to hear from you. Yes she is a very different character in this series and there is so much about the show and the show's character's that I love — he has added so much depth and nuance to the world. I think it's tough with Sookie sometimes because so much of her story is about the romance — but I think when she says "you gave yourself to me too" we are beginning to get to what we are looking from for her and her development. I am looking forward to seeing how it all wraps up with the finale!
Not sure if that was supposed to be a trick, or just poor writing. Because why would you negotiate to just let Sookie go, when there are others in the building, and Bill was on a mission to save his race?
I'm glad Pam disobeyed, because she definitely does a few times in the books. If the new tension in Eric and Pam's relationship equals more screen time for them both in season 5, I'll be happy with it.
I don't know why they're bringing the fae back in so last minute, and I'm afraid they'll throw Crystal back in there also.
I wonder why Jesus or the writers would choose to leave Lafayette so vulnerable to possession. If Jesus can do such powerful magic, I wish he would cast a protection spell of his own for Lafayette.
I'm not sure if anyone else wonders this, but what do they do with all these dead bodies? Where did they put Tommy, and who's moving Marcus?
I'm hoping that all of these storylines get wrapped up neatly and the side stories don't take up as much time as they've been given in previous episodes. I wasn't a fan of the episode, although it had great moments. I enjoyed your review and your fit of hysterical laughter in the beginning. I had a similar reaction to the freeze frame last week. I'm looking forward to your last review of the season, a bonus one for the season overall and your hopes for season 5.
Yeah, it's funny that laughing fir was really spontaneous and perhaps because we were feeling silly this week but we just thought, 'lets just leave it in and let it be natural .'
I actually really enjoyed this episode! However, the only scene i was not a fan of was the whole alcide/debbie/marcus/sam /Luna….. mmmm sorry, but the list just keep going. I thought it was rushed. Also, sookie's exchange with marnie was so out of place. Okay talking about why i loved this episode…. First, Eric is such a BADASS! Omg u guys forgot to mention the heart ripping scene. Eric drank from that aorta like it was a straw in a juice box lol. I love that even now he does not hide his violent side from sookie. Oh this viking rocks!
Secondly, i am enjoying the jason/jessica storyline. Thirdly, i like the exchange between Eric and pam hope to see where that goes. This is really serious; eric actually telling pam to get out of his site before he kills her. I think jesus did a fantastic job this episode; his acting was great! Seriously, can they just give lafayette a break… the guy is still trying to recover from his last possession.
I want that by the end of this season bill and eric should back up from sookie and maybe we will begin to have some of that hot chemistry again between sookie and eric cuz seriously i think sookie needs some time to sort her ridiculous love for both vampires. Once more thanks for the review ladies hope u guys will enjoy next weeks episode.
Wow! I didn't see that twist coming. Marnie is the evil one and Antonia is the innocent! I knew Marnie was addicted to the power but I didn't realize she was the one in charge. NICE! Jessica rocks " I don't care what happens as long as I get to kill shit" priceless! that room is full of dumbassess, I mean SERIOUSLY you try the door AGAIN!!! Debbie finally showed her true colors. As for the final shot… kinda cheesy but cheese can be a good thing
Great review guys. I look foward to your reviews as much as I look forward to new episodes
JASON! , JASON! , JASON! If the actor playing Andy Bellefluer doesn't get nominated for an Emmy, that would be robbery!
Also , E.T. phone home anyone? (also i think Andy is gonna be a Daddy soon). The one constant I love about True Blood, is when they touch on the relationships between Maker and Progeny, it's seems so whole and fulfilling. Who wouldn't want someone in their lives who can be everything (father, brother, best friend etc) to them. There's a new ALPHA in town and his name is Alsexy.. I mean Alcide! I knew Sam couldn't kill him because that would make him pack leader(which made no sense). I felt sorry for Debbie, but at this point u kinda saw it coming (what the hell u doing in your underwear, in your bedroom with some guy?!) Eric the VIKINGGOD is back!!!
Did NOT see that ending coming.. can't wait for the finale.
I always post my comments before i listen to you guys, just to see where our thoughts line up . So I just want to say Roth , you slay me! I was cracking up at your impersonation of Sookie (spot on!) ROFL great review!
I really liked this episode as well (on a whole). It has it's weak parts, but it was able to more or less wrap up a few storylines (and set up for next season).
My highlights from this episode were
1) Pam's intervention and Eric telling her off
2) Andy having a Smeagol/Gollum moment in the forest
3) Eric ripping the heart, and slurping the blood from the aorta
4) Jesus/Lafayette
5) Jason/Jessica
My biggest "bah!" moments were:
1) Sookie (her reactions to the double "suicide", the fire, and joining hands in the circle)
Sookie has no agency but she's presented as the protagonist.
So as much I heart Eric, Pam, Jason, Jessica, Sam, Terry and all that, until Sookie gains agency the show will feel a little awkward. I miss the spunk she had in the novels! The character just becomes more passive with each episode. It's getting to the point where she reminds me of Bella. I do think this is the fault of the writing not the actress' performance. Anyway, thats my compliant about the show in general and this episode in particular although there's plenty about it I like.
This is true! I can't believe in season 1 I was actually interested in what happened to her. She was like an underdog you could root for. She just seems completely unrelatable right now. Maybe the big fairy reveal so early and now having her fall for every supe intown undermined her every girl charm and took some of her spunk away.
"Leave your comments below" but if you disagree, we will erase them. Great journalism, blogging and overall "and let us know what you thought of the episode and if you liked it disliked it." yeah right, biased
If you provide an email address I am more than happy to explain why your comments have been deleted.
For now — I will tell you that personal attacks are not tolerated and attempts to drive people to other sites are clearly not going to be tolerated. The same would be true in any business.
I see that this show means a lot to you and that is wonderful.
If you like what Dennis and the other members of ThinkHero have to offer — that again is wonderful and we thank you for that — please do continue to engage with the rest of the team.
I ask that you not return to our review as it clearly does not bring you any happiness. Also, it is fine to disagree, more than fine, and several people have. It is the method and manner of disagreement that we take issue with.
I wish you well and again — ask that this be the conclusion of our correspondence.
This episode was ridiculous but Eric drinking from the aorta juice-box style redeemed the show for me at last minute. Scenes like that is why I watch True Blood. I'm in for the finale but not sure next year – maybe if the cliff-hanger is amazing. If it's a repeat of a Soul on Fire style episode, even with a Bad ass Eric move, that will be the final nail in the coffin for me – no pun intended or maybe just a bit
Great review, the Sookie impersonation was hilarious!! loved it
I really hated Lafayette's exposition, it was so stupid and annoying but the double suicide was the last straw – it felt so forced and I'm glad Pam spoke up. Still, the episode in general was amusing and it's sad we're left with only one episode until the finale
Wonderful review. I look forward to seeing them each week. I feel like this whole season has been in some alternate TB universe. All the characters seem to be out of sorts. I feel like Sookie is walking around with her hands over her ears mouthing, "la,la,la," all the time. She was gone for a year, watched her Grandfather die, saw Eric kill her Fairy Godmother, heard from Gran, had really ooey-gooey sex and sex talk with Eric, etc. She just doesn't seem right. The acting is terrible too, maybe it's because her lines aren't that great. I don't know, but I've been very disappointed with the Sookie character. Continued…
The Fae – oye – don't get me started. Maybe the show will do a better job with them, but I'm afraid, very afraid. The opening scene of Episode 1 was like something out of the old Star Trek series. Anyway, don't mean to be such a downer, but this season hasn't really had a grounded story. We've flip-flop between one event to the other, with a few good lines thrown in, but I don't feel truly connected to any of the characters or their story. I hope the finale is spectacular, because I think a lot is riding on that.

Olá!
I'm from Brasil and I love your reviews. When you talked about the "Thriller" thing I coudnt stop laughing, I felt really embarassed with all the sequence…
pixel86:
I made a brazilian version of your video a few days ago, with another reference… Here we have a kind of music named "funk" (NOT the James Brown funk, it's very different…), and there's a funk song about "Weekend at Bernie's", this movie was renamed in Brasil as "Um morto muito louco" = " a really crazy dead" (yeah… It's true). the lyric is kind of lame, but you know, is a really funny song, and the choreography tries to imitate the "Bernie's style"…
[youtube WA-WQilwfqo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA-WQilwfqo youtube]
I tried syncronize the lyric when it says: "throw your arms back, and shake your head with the swing of the beat with the really crazy dead… PA – RAN – PA RAN PA PA PA PA …"
I never comment in english because I'm still learning (sorry for the mistakes) but I really love your reviews…
I just want to say that I watched this video more than once, only to see Roth imitating Sookie and Jenna rolling his eyes all the time.
I do not always agree with your opinion, but I appreciate the way try to analyze each story separately. But I just can not see how in just one episode, he will solve the mess that was this season.
I'm trying to choose the moment in this episode that the show was WTF! and it is difficult, but perhaps at the time of suicide pact? frankly, it was stupid.
I always thought of the Marnie character (Fiona Shaw was so wonderful) as sort of a Stephen King, "Carrie" type of horror monster — a meek, bully victim gone berserk with supernatural power, seeking revenge on the world that rejected her. I get her. As does Holly. Loved juice-box Eric. A vamp after my own heart. Ha. Ha.
Yes, the TB Sookie is even more nerve-wracking and inane than the book Sookie. I don't know if it is the acting, or the script, which tends to lose focus with the characters from time to time, but I am with you, Roth, that the gulping, trembling, deer-in-headlights mannerisms of the AP Sookie has got to go. Don't know what she is trying to convey, other than that she is just phoning it in at this point. After seeing the Thriller spoofs, I was thinking that maybe AB should completely jump the shark and work in some Zombies. After the season ends, I will miss your reviews along with the show.

Hey!
We did forget to mention that and it was a great shot! Gross — but great

I also love the Jason/Jessica storyline and absolutely anything that brings us more Eric and Pam is welcome!
And yes, Jesus was wonderful — he usually is.
