My response when the sword fell? "Holy shit, they did it". Yes, Joffery is a douchebag of the highest degree, but he's also just some stupid kid. Cersei manoeuvred him there because she thought she could control him. Placing children in positions of *extreme*, overreaching power is ludicrous. ANY child, never mind a spoiled brat like Joffery (who, by the way, has an immediate family tree that looks like a diamond. A DIAMOND. 0_o)

Speaking of.. I looked up the Targaryen family tree to see if I could figure out who the Grand Master Wall Dude was to Daenerys, and I have to say.. I cannot recommend doing that. What. A. Mess. Seriously, I couldn't figure it out. The gene pool was so shallow, I didn't even have to roll up my jeans to wade through. I had to start making up words, like uncledad, and motheraunt. Stay away if you want to keep your sanity.
Withdrawal isn't strong enough, imma be freaking out. I'm going to have to read the books.

Killing Ned was such a big shock. I've also thought he'll go in season 2 or 3. It was an OMFG moment, poor Arya. It's almost like Drew Barrymore in Scream…

Its mentioned in the books (don't know if its come up in the series yet) that the Targaryens have been wedding brother and sister together for generations in order to try and preserve the blood of old Valyria (of which they are the last survivors). As a side-effect, Targaryens tend to be either completely badass or utterly insane.
Poor Rob…arranged marriages…especially when you have never seen the girl…don't usually work out well. LOL
Queen Cersei didn't care about Ned but she was upset because she realized that Ned was worth more alive as a bargaining chip than dead.
In total shock over Ned's death and I hear that there are more major deaths to come in the series.

Having read the books, I was surprised that they decided to have Arya seen by Ned. It changes up things a little for her escape, not a lot, but just enough to make it less violent and degrading.
And you are right, Ned decided to lie but for the sake of his children not because he suddenly realized how the game of thrones needed to be played.

Yeah the actor is doing a great job of portraying one of my most hated characters of all time. Every time I see him on screen I want to bitch slap him.
