I theorize that Elena and Damon will have a moment, likely a cliffhanger one. Elena's life will hang in the balance near the end of the second season (leading up to her vampire transformation). Bonnie will hook up with Jeremy, but I'm not seeing a serious relationship yet, if at all. Caroline will have to do some thinking on being with Matt, who she endangers or with Tyler, who is dangerous for her to be with. Jenna and Alaric will have troubles taking steps forward while she is oblivious to the supernaturals so she will find out, in a very crazy (likely near-death) event.
I think all possiblities you dicussed are great. I think Katherine has to come out of the tomb. I also think she has to die this season, we really have milked her for all she is worth. We have gotten her backstory and understand her more, so now she must die. I think if anyone is compelled to kill Elena it will either be Stefan or Jeremy. Jeremy would be history repeating (Stefan turning Damon). Just a thought.
Well, whatever happened, Elena definitely SHOULD feel guilty about it. Especially since her boyfriend is trapped in a freakin jail with FREAKIN JAPANESE FOXES with names that I can't pronounce/spell (shakira or something?) he already has enough bad stuff going on in his life without being cheated on by Elena. With his brother. Whom he hates.
In my opinion, Elena doesn't deserve Damon OR Stefan, but since I like Damon better I think that she should just go be with Stefan so that Damon can be with Bonnie. I mean, imagine if Damon and Bonnie had a vamp/witch kid! Lol! Not that I want that to happen, of course, that would just make the story line weird [-er than it already is].
I think Katherine is the one to die, although I hope not. But if she does, I think it will be to save Stefan because she really does love him, and he loves her although he doesnt realize it. He will then mourn her and have to find a way to deal with her death, which will freak Elana out. She will be hurt that she doesn't have 100% of his love and she will be susceptible to Damon's advances. Stefan cannot be cheating on her, how can he cheat with a dead person?
What would be way cooler is if Elena was to drift into Damon's camp and Stefan found a newly discovered love for Katherine. Turn about would be fair play.
