I was diggin season 3 at first, but somewhere along the line it just lost me. For me, this finale was just a mess. There is just so much I could complain about I don't really know where to start. Of course I won't give up on the show, but I truly hope True Blood gets its stuff together by next season.
NOT a good finale. Episode 9, where Russell ripped the spine out of the anchorman, would have been a better finale. It FELT like the high point of the season. It was a perfect WTF! moment that had people screaming at the telly.
If the last words of season 3 had been Russell, at the end of his rant saying demurely 'And now for the the waether: over to you, Tiffany" and viewers then had to wait a year, for what happened next ? It would have been epic.
Instead, we got umpteen unresolved plotlines, that have left people grumbling, complaining about the size of the cast. Cast size isnt the problem. 'Spartacus:Blood and Sand' has an equally large cast and the writing is brilliant enough to accommodate it. Season 2 True Blood had tons of characters and things going on in 2 locations and had us gripped. I'm worried that season 3 – which has been patchy, with some awesome bits (Franklin, for example) is the beginning of the show jumping the shark….
I have a big issue with characters snapping in their personality all over the place. Like Sam this season, and sookie. I know you say sookie's been yelling at the vampire's for years. But you have to keep in mind every episode including season finales end with cliffhangers and pick up exactly where they left off. In the 3 years of true blood in terms of the storyline not much time has passed at all. Maybe about 6months? less than a year for sure.
So based on that a lot of people's relationships or pent up emotions seem really rushed to me.
Finally, someone agrees with me about the Godric-as-conscience stuff. I liked it.
Season finales usually give us cliffhangers and something that makes us squirm with delight to guess what will happen next season. This finale gave us a half a dozen things to wonder about over the next 9 months, so the excitement wasn't concentrated on one scene. Perhaps that dilution is what makes fans feel let down.
The biggest WTF for me was Jason as the new mayor of Hot Shot. Those folks must be ratty lookin' kitties too. I liked Roth's suggestion that this will strengthen the interplay with Sheriff Andy. That could only be a good thing.
The battle-on-strings between Sophie Anne and Bill will get interrupted by something or someone. Maybe that person/vampire/whatever will get dead, but I think NEITHER Sophie Anne or Bill will be killed in this fight. Let's just hope Jessica doesn't come home in the middle, because that would be a sad loss for the show.
I like season 3 better than 2. I think what is missing from the show is some mystery and suspense like in season 1. And possible too many supernaturals. We need some reality. Sookie hardly works as a waitress now. I am hoping that in the future Alan Ball brings the plotline of The Church of the Rising Sun to the forefront. After than stunt that King Russell pulled on TV, America must be terrified of vampires and there has to be a backlash. The Church can play a major part in this.
We also need more Jessica and Pam, especially a backstory on Pam.

I AM SICK TO THE TRUE DEATH OF THE OPENING CREDITS SEQUENCE!!!!!
Please anyone else just wish they could re-work that opening thing?? At first it was fun, all the strange flashing images, the weird song, but now its just too too long! That song, man i wish it could have died back with maryanne.
btw great review Roth, what do you think of the opener?
Hi Ms.Roth, as Russell would have reffed to you. I will keep it short : I think,I watched a Directors cut or something, first, for me it was one of the cleanness episodes of season 3, no gore, no shock on purpose or without, I usually enjoy either one; no sex justify or not, no need to follow any rule but the history and I can keep on and on, but only the Qui pro Quo between Sookie and Russell ( Anna and Denis, because it take two to tango, one need to be replied by the right contender) it was masterfully executed, I can watch that exchange over and over and it gets better by the way it was the second time that both actors shined with just a conversation, only for that piece, it was one of the best episodes on this .amazing and over the top season, with out a chopped cliffhanger, actually u want more than before,
Terrible season. Show has been dropped from my viewing list.
So many characters took hard left turns without appropriate context, hello Sam, and lost any emotional investment.
Bye True Blood! It was fun while it lasted.
