Watch me and Roth’s review of V “Welcome To The War” Season 1 Episode 5. While we liked the Anna storyline and her interactions with other characters, the “resistance” storyline is really weak and seems very shorthand. What do you guys think?

I don’t know if it was the break or if it is really worse than before but I really couldn’t get into the latest episode. The whole thing just seems like a high production value re-creation of the first V series rather than anything original. The resistance story line is particularly dull and incomprehensible. First of all – what are they resisting? They know absolutely nothing about the aliens which might make sense except they have one among them. But he never explains anything to them. Why did the mercenary change his mind and join them? How is it possible that humans and aliens could interbreed? (I know it is in the original but it is stupid). I agree that the best thing about the show is the Anna story line but they manage to even ruin that with the cheesy effect at the end of the episode. We all knew he was going to get eaten – it was chilling and creepy until they got stupid with the ending. It would have been better if they had left his fate to our imagination.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t mind cheesy goodness if it is that kind of show. The original V had a certain vibe and all the things that bother me on this show were OK in that context but this version tries to be serious and yet doesn’t re-imagine anything from the old show. There is literally nothing new. Anna’s character is compelling because of the actress but there isn’t actually anything new in that storyline either. I’m sorry to disagree with you Roth on hybrid babies but the science is just bad. They could have created a compelling twist with either having the hybrids being engineered or by having humans be hosts for completely alien larvae. That would be a great re-imagining of why the aliens came here.
totally agree with you!! Why frame the Merc to the FBI? An advanced alien race chooses this one man as the most dangerous to them? i cant make any sense of this.
But im kinda excited about the prospect of the anti-Vs taking on the spaceships. this seems like the most logical plan if you want to stop them get up on their shiny projector ships.
Yeah it's like they want to point out who they are afraid of? That doesn't make any sense. Erica would have never thought of him unless the V's pointed him out. Very poor writing.

@ Elizabeth : I voiced the same complaint about the resistance having nothing to resist against back in the pilot, and there is STILL nothing to resist. Now, the two sides are building armies….huh??
@ Dennis, Roth : you guys actually like the Chad Decker character?? I can't stand him. It's a silly name and I just don't see him as the Ted Rather of news boardcasting.
The name is kind of silly but his dynamic with Anna is the best of the show. He has to struggle between his personal/professional desires versus his journalistic integrity. It's not so much that he's a likable character versus he's one of the few characters that feels real on the show.

@ Roth : you made a really good comment about arrogant characters like V's Erica and FlashForward's Mark. It's the same thing with Jack on LOST : sure, he's strong, but he's also too arrogant.
Personally I don't find Jack that arrogant especially compared to Mark or Erica. He seems more concerned about being the "father" figure of the castaways and sometimes comes across too stern.
