Watch me and Roth discuss Fringe season 2 epsisodes “Unearthed” and “Johari Window”. While not bad episodes, these stand alone stories are starting to wear on me.

Dennis' comment about the stand alone episodes is all too true.
I love Fringe. I love the humor and the oddity of it, I think it's a better show than X-Files and given enough time I think others would start to agree (or maybe not). But it is going to lose and it is going to be lost if the writers don't pick up the pace.
And I really didnt care for an old episode being thrown in as filler. Her old partner (the one that the alien took his form for awhile) was dead, then he pops up and I totally had a WTF moment.
The thing that was cool about "unearthed" was in one seen you could see a watcher in the background. it was outside the court house, and one walked behind Olivia. nice little easter egg, but did it really mean anything? probably not.
But i was watching on my DVR and had no clue it was a season 1 episode, seeing Charlie threw me off so bad, i feel like that hurt the episode beyond it just being another Freak of the week episode.
Jahari window wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. it was easy to see where it was going, and I'm starting to wonder if we will ever find out more of what Walter was doing than just, hey guys Walter did a lot of crazy projects. Maybe some insight into how he got into these, and why the government was using him, and why they would just let him go afterward. It doesn't make sense to me that he would be a free man when he has some much information on these "secret projects"
I felt pretty cheated by "Unearthed". I was scratching my head over the appearance of Charlie and wondering if the whole thing was in an alternate universe. I discovered on the internets the next day that it was just an old unaired episode. I was unimpressed.
I guess it was shot last season but never aired. Even if it aired last season I still would have been unimpressed.

I, like most of you, was freaking out when I watched Unearthed. This caused me to search the internets to find some explanation to this. Of course the first place I look is wikipedia and found something interesting.
What is interesting is Fox decided to air the episode as a stand alone but later clarified that it could possibly be taking place in an alternate universe. It would be amazing to see some episodes from an alternate universe creating an alternate season during Fringe. in other words, it would be nice to see these stand alone episodes actually mean something later on during the run of the series.
I haven't watched past Johari Window so it's very possible they've explained this already.
Also, Johari Window was a very good stand alone episode because it caused some great tension for me. As soon as I saw the kid turn into something a bit different, it scared me a bit. At first, I thought they were going to go with a mythological troll storyline but of course, Fringe always has a good scientific way to explain thing. that's gotta be a good reason to love the show by the way.
Also, one last thing, is it possible that everytime we see a watcher in the background when something major isn't taking place like say, a world disaster or massacre, that we could be watching something in the alternate universe? just a question that might already be answered somewhere down the line of the series.
They still haven't explained that episode in terms of the context of the story. I think its a throwaway episode that will have no consequence on the series. If it is an alternate universe, it can't be the one we've seen already since Peter is in it, and we know that he isn't there because he's in "ours".
Interesting theory about the watcher, I'd have to rewatch some episodes and see. He/They seem to be around a lot watching Olivia.
