Early last year people were calling Star Trek the most successful reboot of all time. It’s not hard to see why. Very real stakes, great humor, and a film that respected the source material while still bringing something new to audiences. On the flipside, there are a lot of hardcore Star Trek fans who say they didn’t want their beloved franchise turned into Star Wars. Whichever side you fall on, Paramount has announced that the sequel to JJ Abrams’ incredibly successful film is scheduled to be released June 29th, 2012.
Screenwriters Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof began brainstorming last March 2009. Solidifying a release date probably means they at least have a concrete outline of where it’s going to go. Lindelof is busy finishing the second half of Lost’s final season, so Orci and Kurtzman will probably be writing through Spring/Summer at least. JJ Abrams has not officially signed on to direct the film, for whatever reason, but I wouldn’t rule it out. I know a lot of people who wouldn’t see the sequel unless Abrams helmed it. Who do you think should helm the film if Abrams turns it down?

I just did a happy.
. . .
In my pants.
I will only be thoroughly satisfied if JJ Abrams returns.
