Louis Leterrier really really wants to direct The Avengers. He’s currently finishing the upcoming Clash Of The Titans, but the director has made no secret of his passion for the project. ”I hope they don’t find a director before I’m available, because I’d love to take a crack at ['Avengers'],” Leterrier told MTV News. “It’s just an amazing universe, and to have everybody involved…”
After Jon Favreau took himself out of the running, most have been wondering who would helm the feature. I don’t think any studio has ever tried to bring together at least three distinct franchises while keeping each franchise firmly grounded in a reality that supports it all. ”Jon Favreau would’ve been the best director to do this thing, but now that he’s a producing, I’d love to be able to work with him and continue what I started with ‘Hulk’ and what he started with ‘Iron Man’ and we do it together and continue that universe,” he said.
As for how likely that is to happen, Leterrier said he’s still contracted for a second film and has been chatting with Marvel whenever the opportunity arises. ”It’s like an option,” he said of his Marvel movie deal. “I was optioned for two movies with Marvel. So every time I do a movie, like ‘Clash’ for example, I say, ‘Guys, I’m about to do ‘Clash’ — so can I do it?’ And they say, ‘Yeah, we have nothing for you, so go ahead.’”
Leterrier says he hasn’t sent anyone his pitch for The Avengers, but that’s it’s hardly ever far from his mind. ”I love the Marvel universe,” he laughed. I say let him. I like the action scenes in Hulk, even if they run a little long and the trailer for Clash Of The Titans is pretty incredible. If anything, the guy definitely has an eye for action and I think working under Jon Favreau’s guidance would really make The Avengers a spectacle. We’re still waiting on Iron Man 2, Thor, and The First Avenger: Captain America. What do you think?

When you take Iron Man out of a side by side with Hulk, Hulk really was a great movie. Iron Man of course was just awesome.
I never really cared about Thor as a character. Just never interested me one bit. I'll still see the movie though since it'll have a tie in of some kind with the Avengers.
I just hope they make Cap's movie on the same caliber as Iron Man. At this point, they really can't let any of the main Avenger's movies suck.
Yeah I enjoyed the Hulk as well, if it had not come out so soon after Iron Man, I think it would have done better in the box office and would have been critically recieved better.

Agreed. I think they were just trying to take advantage of the momentum and get Marvel Studios moving. Interested to see a Hulk sequel from Leterrier though if he doesn't get the Avengers job.

Same here. Never really cared about Thor, but interested to see how they work all these films together into one cohesive universe. Leterrier knows how to shoot action, though. I think he'd be perfect for this with Jon Favreau and Kevin Feige behind him.

Thor would be the hardest to adapt and with the script under lockdown I'm hoping they actually use much of Thor's Asgard background in addition to the crazyman he ends up becoming when exiled to Midgard. I say they seen to think very long before they pick a director for The Avengers. That film will be THE film to decide whether superhero teams really can work on the big screen.
I don't know much about Thor (didn't really read his comics) but since Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz wrote it, I have faith that it will be good. They wrote some of the best episodes of both Terminator SCC and most recently Fringe.

I would definatly be behind Louis. As a huge comic book geek, I loved Incredible Hulk, almost as much as I loved Iron Man. I think he has a really good style, and with the help of aaall the other directors taking on Marvel's holy trinity.. Why not? Like, if the guy behind Iron Man, Cap, and Thor help.. Yeeeh, I'm in. This movie is sounded better and better, hope this comment gets around to everyone so they can put it into consideration.
Even if it was the director of Thor or Cap, just.. as long as they love the characters and want to do them justice, and they have the chops to direct, obviously. But, I wouldn't complain if Louis got picked for it. It's a huuuuge project, but, again, if everyone pitches in, it could be pretty epic. After all, this is the holy trinity of comic book characters. <3
