Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies For 2010
Posted on: January 6, 201024 comments so far (is that a lot?)
Now that the new year has come, here is my top 10 list of most anticipated movies for this year. Let me know what yours are and what you think of mine.

10. A-Team
With a pretty good cast (Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Rampage Jackson) and what hopefully will remain in the “not too serious” tone of the original TV series, I can’t wait to see the movie or at least the trailer that’s coming this weekend.
UPDATED – Just saw trailer and it was disappointing, didn’t have the feel of the A-Team and I could barely tell that it was an A-Team movie.
9. Shutter Island
Normally since Martin Scorsese is my favorite director, a movie of his would rank much higher on the list, however since I’m not a huge fan of the horror genre my excitement for the new Scorsese isn’t as high as it should be. I’m hoping it’s more of a thriller than horror, though I’m sure with Marty at the helm it will be awesome.
8. Prince Of Persia
Was there ever a good video game based movie? I can think of some mediocre ones and a lot of dreadful ones. Perhaps this one can change that, or at least be entertaining. From what I’ve seen so far in the trailers and behind the scenes video it looks to have a shot of being a lot of fun and entertaining.
7. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt.1
Unlike some Harry Potter fans who have read the books, I enjoyed Half Blood Prince and am looking forward to the first part of the ending chapter of the series. After almost giving up on the movie franchise after the boring first two movies, I found all the following films to be both engaging and entertaining.
6. Alice In Wonderland
After not being that impressed by the first teaser trailer, the latest trailer of Tim Burton’s retelling of the Alice In Wonderland story has really got me excited about the project. Seeing how the visual effects are incorporated in creating the look and feel of the movie has got me pumped up for it.
5. Clash Of The Titans
This is one of the few remakes that I actually support. It’s taking something that can benefit by today’s visual effects and giving it a much needed facelift. I know people have a nostalgic feeling for the original but let’s get real, while to stop motion was great for the time and looks awesomely retro, it doesn’t mean it’s the only way.
4. Kick-Ass
I haven’t read the original comic book series, but judging from the trailers and clips I’ve seen, this movie looks to be both brutally violent and funny in a fun way. The Hit Girl trailer alone has made my anticipation for the movie rise from bottom of the list to midway.
UPDATED – Just saw the 2nd trailer and has only amplified my excitement for this movie
3. Tron Legacy
The movie isn’t coming out until December of this new year, which is a long time away, though they have already posted billboards promoting it here in Los Angeles (wonder if they will stay up the whole year?). Rumored to have cost over 300 million, Disney better hope it delivers the goods like Avatar did for FOX. From the demo footage, it looks pretty amazing so far though I still don’t know where all the money went.
2. Iron Man 2
The first Iron Man was a surprise for everyone, as the character was never an A list super hero and most people were anticipating The Dark Knight that year. Looking from the trailer it looks to be a lot more of the same which is a good thing. I do have a little concern with all the characters in this (War Machine, Whiplash, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Justin Hammer) and hope it doesn’t turn into a Spider Man 3 fiasco.
1. Inception
I haven’t seen a Chris Nolan movie I haven’t liked (Memento, The Dark Knight, The Prestige, Batman Begins, and even Insomnia) so I have high hopes from this intriguing sci fi/thriller starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Ellen Page. From the mysterious trailer, it looks to be like some Matrix/Dark City type of story with the world being able to be controlled with people’s minds.

Good list and, with the exception of Persia and the new Burton film, I'm pretty much seeing those on day 1.

Nope, never have been. I think it's because I'm squemish when it comes to blood and guts especially shown graphically. My favorite horror movies are ones that are more thrillers and psychological like Session 9 and The Ring.

Ahhh, no zombie films for you then.

Yeah I'm not totally aware of whats coming out this next year but of what I have seen Kick-ass is what I'm most excited for and I NEED to go out and by the comics. Although I have to say seeing previews of the comics it looks a lot more serious but I may be wrong. Although I still haven't caught up with the Walking Dead yet so I may have to do that first now the TV show adaptation is gonna be awesome first zombie tv show of the best zombie thing I've ever seen at least.

Is Walking Dead the zombie web series with Jon Heder? I think I saw a couple episodes of that. Didn't know they were making a TV show from it.

Walking Dead is an excellent comic book series that's been picked up by AMC to be their next TV series. Even better than that, Frank Darabont is signed on to direct some episodes. Here's to hoping he can get the camera crew from the Shield that he used for The Mist to help out on this one too.

Yeah The Walking Dead has to be my favorite Comic Series and I'm hoping the show gets popular I mean how could a Zombie tv show not get popular if a show like Mad Men can not saying Mad Men isn't good but not near as mainstream.

The two I don't agree with are A-Team and Prince of Persia, other than that great list Dennis.

I'm with ya on most of the list. Don't care to much about Inception or The A-Team, but I will be seeing them, and I'd put Tron 2 at the top of mine.

I'd like to see more of Tron Legacy before getting more excited for it. It looks great so far, but don't have any indication of what the story will be like.

That's kind of how I feel because they decided to pick of Sharlto Copley from District 9. That made their cool points go way up for me. If the trailer doesn't deliver this weekend, I'll be in the fence for awhile.
I'm surprised you didn't put Dabreakers or Book of Eli on this list, especially since they're releasing very soon. By the way, Machete's definitely an honorable mention.

Haven't seen Mad Men yet, though sounds like I should go pick up Walking Dead to read.

Going to see Daybreakers tomorrow night and Book Of Eli when it comes out.
I have high hopes for Daybreakers, not so much for Book Of Eli.

Yeah and the first volume is the weakest while its still good the second volume really sets the tone for the whole series.

One thing for sure the book is not for the faint-hearted.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:46 AM
Yeah the reason I like it so much is the fact that it relys mainly on character development. It makes the deaths so much more effective and I really think that while the horror genre isn't known for having good character development that you'd think it would be reliant on it. Because if more horror movies did that than there'd be more to them than JUST seeing people die in gory ways. But when you care for them it makes the movie or whatever much more rewatchable.

Heard a bunch of good buzz on Eli recently, which I never would have expected, especially following up The Road so quickly.

I actually like zombie movies but probably not the super graphic ones like some of George Romero's work.

I'll have a better idea how I feel about A-Team once the trailer comes out this weekend. Either it will make me want to watch it more or it might suck. I do like the cast they have to be the A-Team though.

The Walking Dead is the best thing in comics now that 100 Bullets has ended its run. I would actually put The Walking Dead above all things zombie outside the first three Romero's.

I'll still go see it, and I'm actually predisposed to like post apocalyptic stories (loved Fallout 3). So hopefully it's at least decent.

Fantastic list. Inception would be at the top for me, too. Love Christopher Nolan as a director. Also agree totally with you on the Potter franchise: First two movies very dull, great after that. Prisoner of Azkaban probably my fave, followed by Half-blood Prince. HBP probably had the superior directing, but I loved the storyline of Azkaban the best. Like you I've never read the books, so I'm judging them purely as movies in their own right.

Oh, and I was really so-so on Clash of the Titans initially. Not a huge fan of the original, and the "Titans will clash" teaser left me cold. But the latest trailer has me absolutely pumped for it. It almost feels like a God of War movie.
Speaking of which, a God of War movie would be amazing if done right. Perhaps the first really good video game adaptation (that is, if Prince of Persia disappoints).

Currently traveling between Miami and Florida, reading this on my Iphone. Will read it in full when I get back, and I will also post a backlink on my website. Thanks.
