Here is my list of my worst 5 movies of 2009. Remember this only includes “geek” genre films and only stuff I’ve seen (There’s probably a lot of terrible movies I didn’t see because I didn’t want to pay for them). Let me know on the ones you agree with or disagree with, and what you would put on there.
PS I did not see Dragon Ball Z or Street Fight: The Legend Of Chun Li, so I couldn’t put them on the list.

5. Terminator Salvation – Probably my most disappointing movie of the year. I loved the trailers and they made me pumped up for the 4th film in the franchise. Also in addition, I had been watching the fantastic Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles, my Terminator appetite had not been bigger since T2. Unfortunately, the movie ended up being very flat and delivered an empty story and uninspiring performances (other than Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin).
4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Having really liked the first two X-Men movies, it’s sad to see the franchise fall this far. With a mediocre 3rd film and now this, I can’t say that I’m looking forward to future movies in this series. Besides the clichéd story devices and camera angles (helicopter view zooming out), the visual effects were subpar (If I can do some of those at home, you’re not trying hard enough).
3. The Box – As a big of fan as I am of Donnie Darko, I can’t give a pass to Richard Kelly’s latest. While there’s actual potential in this film, it’s wasted by some confusing editing, strange narrative choices, and a less than stellar performance by Cameron Diaz.
2. Year One – I can’t remember laughing once while watching this movie starring Jack Black and Michael Cera. Perhaps I may have chuckled one or two times but even that I can’t be sure. This was a huge waste of time and can’t believe this movie got made. The sad thing is that it almost made its money back with the worldwide gross.
1.Transformers 2 – How do you mess up a movie about giant robots fighting with each other? I guess Michael Bay can. The good: CG and a couple cool action fight scenes. The bad: Almost everything else. The story makes absolute no sense and the characters are thrown about with no rhyme or reason. Bay should take some lessons from James Cameron on how to direct a good action movie.

LOL, I like how you picked a shot with the Twins in it. Perfect!
Couldn't agree more with Terminator and Wolverine. I was so disappointed, just because I'd been following all the news and stuff for months and months. xD *sigh* Oh well. Maybe First Class will be better.
I love all these 'top 5' lists. xD Hope you continue them!
Yes it is. If there was animated poo dripping from Devastor down onto their faces while they opened their mouths it would be even better.
Dennis
Thanks, hopefully with Bryan Singer coming back to the franchise he can make things good again (though I was disappointed in Superman Returns).
I'll have another Best of 2009 Movies list soon, and then Top 10 movies to look forward to as well.
Dennis
I was really hoping to like The Box, so definitely wasn't looking to dislike it. I found it oddly edited with an entire 15-20 minute segment at the end missing.
Don't watch Year One, you'll save yourself 2 hours of your life.
To me if you can't tell the difference between Michael Bay and James Cameron you don't know anything about filmmaking. Sadly some people can't and I'm not talking about the average viewer.
Dennis
I agree with this list but I know something's missing
There's probably a ton of crappy movies I left out because I didn't get a chance to see them. Though some people might include GI Joe, but I actually enjoyed myself watching it. It was cheesy and stupid but fun for me. Unlike Transformers 2 which bored me.
Dennis
You're so correct. I would have to say Joe and Transformers 2 were about the same amount of quality but GI Joe knew it was dumb, the other tried too hard to be based in reality while sucking.
By the way, I noticed this is your list, what's the chances we're going to get something from Roth or Beckett?
Could not agree with you more on choices 5, 4, and especially number 1. I came out of Transformers 2 wanting to strangle Michael Bay to within an inch of his life. I did like The Box though, and I feel really bad for Richard Kelly because so many people want to take him down even before his movies come out. Never did see "Year One."
I only saw one of the five you list so I glad I skipped most of your worst list. Terminator Salivation isn’t the worst movie I’ve seen or even the worst I seen this year but I think it might be the most disappointing movie of all time.
I only saw 18 movies this year so maybe lists don’t mean much for me but here are my bottom 5:
5 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
4 Terminator Salvation
3 Push
2 New Moon
1 Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
I have to say, I actually enjoyed 3 of your 5 worst movies, hahaha. They weren't amazing or anything but I was entertained.
Numbers 1, 3, and 5 to be exact.
Dennis
I didn't see many movies this year so I skipped the real stinkers. I didn't hate any of my bottom five they just weren't that good.
I'm one of apparently two people on the planet that liked Terminator Salvation. I wouldn't call it a "great movie", but it wouldn't come anywhere near my "worst" list.
Salvation had so much potential and just needed some changes in the script and performances and it could have been on my top movies of the year but sadly it fell flat for me. I was really looking forward to it too,
Dennis
I agree with your list Dennis. There was one movie for me this year that I felt was very very disappointing and it was Star Trek. While the movie started out great with the birth of Capt. Kirk, the rest of the movie fell flat. My main points of disappointment were time travel (really?!? That's the best they can think of?), the main villain was lame and they could have found some species better for the role of villain, and the ending was a let down. Although the performances were good, the whole movie in general was a big disappointment for me.
I enjoyed Star Trek quite a bit, though I do agree with you about the villain. He wasn't a very good villain and the time traveling thing was unnecessary. It's almost like they did it just so Leonard Nimo could be in the movie.
Dennis
I enjoyed seeing it in theaters, but the more I watch it, the more critical I become of the movie and that doesn't usually happen cus I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan (Voyager is my favorite!!).
All about Deep Space 9 for me. Once that war began it just went from 1 to 11.
I'm a Next Generation fan myself, though Voyager is my 2nd favorite. Never really got into the original series though I did like a few episodes I saw.
Dennis
Two of my best friends really loved the Transformers movies. I myself didn't hate them like some people do. I thought they were both very average.
Though I must say, I did like Terminator Salvation.
I have to agree with "year one" though, I thought that was pretty terible, I think I laughed a couple of times when the Kane character was on but other than that it was pretty bad…. and I had to close my eyes for the crap eating scene. Ick!
Agree with you about Terminator Salvation. The worst thing was, a major plot point didn't make ANY SENSE AT ALL!
***SPOILER***
The Terminators were trying to find the young Kyle Reese in order to kill him so that John Connor would never be born. But when they finally found him, why the heck did they use him as bait to lure John Connor?? Why not just kill him and kill Connor in the process. Very very lazy.
