Here is me and Roth’s review of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams. We both thought the movie was a lot of fun and entertaining. Watch our review and let us know what you think, thanks!

Ohhhh, How I'm so unsure of this movie. I've yet to see it, but all I've heard, and fromt he trailers I've seen, It seems like a very choppy copy and paste of certain Holmes elements.
Irene Adler only actually ever appeared in one of the short stories. And Holmes did nothing but just keeping a picture of her after the mystery she was involved in.
And He usually only reserved fighting as a last resort as well.
It's strange I loved the remake of BSG whereas many of the fans of the original hated it, yet now that Sherlock Holmes has been redone, I have a feeling I just won't like it. But whereas BSG only had the one series originally, there have been many incarnations of Holmes, and they pretty much rigidly stuck to the original Ideals.

This was a tough movie to watch. Too long for a story that didn't go anywhere. They should give everyone a free ticket to the sequel to make up for this one :-)

You guys must be off to a great start because I think Roth is sporting Chanel to begin the new year…ka ching$$ :-)

Sounds like Sherlock Holmes is a bromance rendered down to its most basic element. :)

  4. ThinkHero Says:

Sadly the "bromance" is much better than the supposed "bromance" I Love You Man, which was not very good.

I don't know much of the Sherlock Holmes incarnations, so would be interesting to hear what a Sherlock fan has to say about the movie. Perhaps complaints about things, the regular audience wouldn't have because they wouldn't know what was being changed.

Your twin review also seem to describe it just what it is: an introductory installment to what the studios hope is a new franchise. First installments in new franchises usually the weakest.

And then 2nd one usually knocks it out of the park (Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, X-Men 2), then 3rd becomes bloated and a mess and does well in box office but people hate it (Spider Man 3, Pirates of The Caribbean, X-Men 3)

Sherlock Holmes was exact what I expected based on the trailers. Given how many disappointing movies I’ve seen (Spiderman 3, Terminator Salvation…), I enjoyed seeing a solid movie with good acting. I seem to be in the minority at least among my family and friends who can’t seem to tell me why they didn’t like it but I’m guessing there was some disappointment factor involved or something. Your review nailed both the good points and bad of the movie and I agree with the B grade. It was not earth shattering but it was a good movie. I agree with Roth that it would have been nice to see more of Holmes’ deductive skills – it was clear he was making deductions from the clues all along but in Monk “here’s what happened” fashion didn’t share until the end. In fact, the wrap it all up ending turned me off.
