Here’s a new poster for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Robin Hood movie starring Russell Crowe. From the reaction from the trailer, people complained that there seemed to be a lot of sword hacking and slashing and not enough bows and arrows, while mocking that it was more Gladiator 2 than the guy who steals from the rich to give to the poor. Perhaps this poster is a reaction to that, showing off Crowe with a bow and arrow.

They sure got Robin Hood looking more pissed off than previous incarnations. I wonder if this poster is just one of several that will show each main character in their poses. That style of advertising has become more and more commonplace with tentpole films.
I am looking forward to this film despite it possibly turning into a "Maximus' First Bow and Arrow Set" movie. Why? Because the actual story of Robin Hood is not light hearted. It's dramatic, treacherous, and violent. If they can capture that energy that made Gladiator so epic, then this stands to be an awesome movie.
I'm just not yet certain where I stand with Crowe playing Robin.
Doesn't Crowe seem to big to be playing Robin Hood? I always pictured him as skinnier and more acrobatic (probably from watching the old Robin Hood movies).

Not at all. A good deal of the Robin Hood story actually takes place in his time fighting in the Crusades and the ordeals he faces there. I would think this would make him of a warrior's build. Lean certainly, but muscular.

But that's all only my opinion.
I'd agree with you. Being a history buff, especially of military history, Crowe has the look of the Crusading knight and/or Men-at-Arms. Ridley Scott sometimes fudges with historical facts to suit the film's drama, but he's always been pretty accurate when it comes to historical details.
What I'm not sure of by the look of the trailer is if Scott went back and revised the story to make King Richard the bad king instead of King John.
