Its a spinoff of Dr. Who...therefore, by diving in and watching Torchwood first, you'll be missing out on all the great character development and backstory that created the interest in the sister series, namely how Jack became immortal, the nature of his immortality, and the Face of Boe. I must respectfully disagree...considering there were at least four seasons worth of Dr. Who on Netflix Instant play last I looked. ^_^ Its only as complicated as you make it.
