well I am excited to see this film if only to judge how it stands against the hype. I think the film trailers have been doing a good job recently of explaining the story a bit more, finally pulling in interest from friends of mine. Where before.. it was just a sci-fi geek film that I would see alone.

  2. JacksonKnife Says:

Avatar looks crazy sick. I can't wait to see James Cameron climb back to the top. Plus, you gotta love Sigourney Weaver!

  3. bless2k9 Says:

Avatar has caught my eye since the very first tv spot. James Cameron looks to have outdone himself with the making of this movie. it looks great, and can only be a product of hard work and determination. it definately looks like a movie of the year candidate.

  4. ThinkHero Says:

Yeah, after going to a Christmas potluck this past weekend, this particular group of friends aren't really into the sci fi/geek thing but they all knew about the movie and were actually looking forward to seeing it. So besides the geek community the actual mainstream audience is definitely interested.

  5. ThinkHero Says:

Cameron does know how to write pretty kick ass roles for women, so I'm expecting Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana to have some memorable female characters.

I'm digging the 3D tech and HOPING the story isn't as predictable as it seems. But I'm a visual guy, so if it has enough eye candy to keep me smiling (like the first half of 2012) I'm good. My guess is that it will be visually stunning, an okay story and not as good as Aliens. Looks to cartoony to be that serious.

  7. Fuelbot Says:

While the story isn't anything tragically original, what the reviews have been stating is that you get so caught up in the emotion it doesn't matter. A planet is at stake and for the first time in cinema, it might actually feel and seem that way.

Cameron hasn't let me down yet! I'm looking forward to AVATAR to see how he handles 3D. Everyone else seems to use the same old 3D gimmicks, stuff flying off the screen into your face, and that's the main reason I don't bother with 3D movies at the theater (and since I'm a glasses wearer anyway, the 3D glasses are just annoying). I'm hoping that Cameron is above that, and from what I've read, he uses it more to create a real 3D environment. This will be the only movie I go see in a theater this season.

  10. Nathan Says:

Not counting Titanic, Mr. Cameron hasn't made a bad movie. And really, is Titanic that bad? Its just boring. While the story seem not very original, I'm a sucker for these kinds of movies. And if the effects are as state of the art as everyone is saying they are, you can count me in.

  11. @Tacoshack27 Says:

I can't wait to see 14 years of thought an planning play out on the big screen. Always loved Mr Cameron's work and am always anxious to see what he comes up with next.

  12. valdezign Says:

Saw the free preview footage on Avatar day and it was love at first 15 minutes. ;) And that was just minutes of 3D. I can't imagine HOURS of 3D! It's gonna rock.

  13. fejimanz Says:

I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE SO BAD!? WHY? because look at it? I have my 3D tickets for 1201 friday morning already purchased, and it is going to be amazing. Jimmy Cameron is one of the most revolutionary film makers of this generation. He is picky with his projects and when he does do something it is incredible… almost like the Daniel Day-Lewis of groundbreaking cinematic achievements.

The performances will seamlessly be integrated into awe inspiring CGI, to work hand in hand to create a wonderful event to see…

Why am i looking forward to it? because it is the next step in cinematic evolution.

  14. ThinkHero Says:

From what I've heard, the 3D isn't used for gimmicks, and that is used to heighten and hilight certain story elements and user engagement. Cameron wouldn't use 3D to just use it, only to serve the whole of the movie.

    Dennis

  15. ThinkHero Says:

Yeah Titanic wasn't a bad movie, I personally wasn't a fan, though the ending sequence was amazing. It suffered from sappy dialogue and cliched plot elements, which could have been fixed but probably would have turned away the huge teenage female audience that came to see it.

  16. Walter Elly Says:

I've been anticipating Avatar since I first saw an untitled entry for a James Cameron movie while clicking around IMDB many years ago. I was instantly excited because it was James Cameron and it was scifi. Then I came to understand that he's doing this because of the opportunity to use new technology, the 3d – that it's the technological capabilities that were now available to him that made him want to proceed, got him excited enough to make another film that got me going for the movie, and that was when I only new that it had a name called Avatar (which reminded me of the Ultima series, but that's for another day).

So I will see this first for the tech and second for the story – but given that everything I've seen from James Cameron has totally enthralled me I have a hope that this will be good, possibly epic. We'll find out soon!

  17. LlochNess Says:

    Why!??! xD

    James Cameron. Sigorney Weaver.

That's all that needs to be said. :3 But I shall continue~ The work they put into this movie is mind blowing, people have poured countless hours into making this a way to get people back to the cinema.
Also, it's bringing people back to Sci-Fi and fantasy adventure movies. <.< And really, those are the best kinds of movies. *w* I mean, I love super hero movies, but it's such a breath of fresh air.

And I defended this movie when people bitched about it not being photo-realistic.

And I already have my midnight tickets. >=D I asked time off from work so that I could sleep in the next day. Then I'm seeing it again on Friday. Oooh the joy.

Those are my reasons. :3 Mostly.. Signorney Weaver as a Navi. Common. <.< If that doesn't make you geek out.. you suck.

  18. Nathan Says:

    I totally agree.

  19. pmharrell Says:

I was pretty excited for Avatar already, but after seeing the TRS guys review and the critical response in general I am more excited for this movie than I have been in a long time. Just got my ticket for Friday 12:01 AM

  20. Justin Says:

It’s only thee most anticipated 3d movie since ever! Can’t wait!!!

  21. Jim Says:

I have been hyped about this movie for as long as I can remember. I too recently saw the TRS review, and their excitement has pushed me over the edge! I wasn’t sure if I would go see it in 3D, but now I simply HAVE to!

  22. Landfill Says:

I want to see this movie because James Cameron needs to rebound after the bomb that was Piranha 2.

  23. BG Avatar Says:

This movie is going to rock, can't wait to see it tonight! James Cameron has never let me down, even Titanic had an amazing ending sequence. Going to watch this 5 times in the theatre! Screw the haters!

  24. Walter Elly Says:

    Woohoo I'm a winner!!

  25. Fuelbot Says:

Stupid trackpad. I meant to give you a thumbs up. lol

    Brian
