New Freddy Krueger Revealed, Sort Of (PICS)

Platinum Dunes is putting the finishing touches on another of their unnecessary horror-classic reboots. This time it’s Wes Craven’s masterwork, A Nightmare On Elm Street. Say what you will about the rest of the franchise, but the first holds up as almost all of those classic debuts did (both, the original Friday The 13th and Halloween). The catch of someone who murders you in your dreams made it all that more frightening, so in that regard it’s a haunting concept that doesn’t lose any of it’s power.
Honestly, there’s only a couple of reasons I’m interested in this, but still skeptical. First is Haley’s portrayal of Krueger. He was great in Watchmen, but his phenomenal turn in Little Children immediately made him one of my favorite actors. Second, Samuel Bayer is an incredible video director with more than 20 years of experience behind a camera. None of that matters, though because it’s Platinum Dunes and they make dumb but profitable horror reboots. Thankfully, none of their franchises take off.
A bunch of high-quality stills were released recently from the film, one of which is a shot of the new Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) cloaked in shadow. With a little Photoshop and gradient/brightness adjusting DH has given us our first (unofficial) shot of burn victim/serial-killer, Fred Krueger. Included are a few more shots that come to us by way of Bloody-Disgusting. Check out their site for the full gallery.
