Is This The Last Year For ‘Heroes’?

E! Online is reporting that a source close to the show’s production says this may be the final year for the ill-fated Heroes. “Everyone is expecting this to be the last season. The cast, the crew, everyone,” the source stated. While still not a final announcement by any means, Sendhil Ramamurthy is said to be the next star killed off of Heroes. He’s been cast in a new pilot called Rex Is Not Your Lawyer; however, the show has not been picked up for series yet.

For me, Heroes died with it’s second season premiere. That one episode would become the model for the next three years of the show’s run: uninspired plotlines, lazy loopholes, ALWAYS getting rid of the interesting characters in favor of some ridiculously inane character, and the fact that every other episode someone new is added to the Petrelli bloodline. All of that just made for sloppy, boring television. The first season is still regarded as it’s best and while most attribute that to Bryan Fuller, who can really say for sure. Heroes was the first big LOST-clone, equaling that show’s ratings and acclaim. However,  it simply fell apart as the series continues to do.

I think NBC should reconsider cancelling the show altogether, and take a look at what the brand was originally meant to be. When Tim Kring started the nature of the show was to employ a revolving door of characters. While that might decrease investment in the show, I think that a new model could be used in which every two or three years the entire cast is dumped. The show has massive global appeal, but has been bogged down by a defiantly unoriginal writing staff. Bring in some new blood and get this thing going again. With all the CSIs and Law & Order’s, I’d rather see something like this continue. I love the concept, but vehemently hate the writing. What do you think? Are you excited or disappointed that Heroes might end this year?

This is a long time coming. The first half of season 3 was some of the worst television I've ever seen. I enjoyed the first season and thought it had potential (though not very original) but it wasted it all through the remaining seasons.

I actually think Heroes is rebounding at this point. It's very possible to wrap things up by April next year but I wouldn't want that to happen because I'm a Heroes fan.

I realize the second season is the one everyone remembers as being the one that sucked miserably. Yes, even I think it sucked and will complain about it forever but Heroes has shown some light in the last 2 seasons.

Last season was a bit off with the Petrelli family running wild but I did like the inclusion of the father as the villain. It would have been great to see him around still because he was so powerful but that's not going to happen. He was basically an older Sylar.

The second part of last season was good but it's ending wasn't all there and the fact that they set up a multiple personality Sylar wasn't cutting it. It's nice to see Quinto act it out this season but that's the only thing good about it.

This season has had a few ups and downs but overall it's a good season. I would be deeply saddened if it were true Heroes wasn't coming back next year for another season. I agree with this article that anything added in like more talented writers wouldn't hurt the series but it's going good so far, NBC, have faith in your show. Please don't turn into Fox and cancel everything good.

NBC is known for holding on to their shows and having faith they'll rebound. The Office, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation are great examples of this.

There's something like fifteen Law & Orders. The very nature of this show lends itself to running for years. It's the only superhero show on television.

I agree that this season is a lot better than the previous 2, but I don't think that's going to be enough. The ratings are down, and overall critical reception is no longer good. That's the thing about The Office, 30 Rock, and Parks and Rec, when the ratings weren't great, critics really liked them and the fans were diehard. For Heroes, the critics and the fans have been leaving en masse.

You're right about the critics and fans. Plus, Heroes is way to old to be looking at a ratings problem right now. I guess I really don't want the series to end so soon. Back when the show debuted it was one of the most talked about shows with tons of potential. There just now getting back to that I think especially with the last episode of this year.
