Ryne Pearson Pens A ‘Black Summer’

Warren Ellis, who writes something like 50 comic books concurrently at any given moment, has a couple of projects going into production. An adaptation of his graphic novel Red, as well as his dark superhero mini-series Black Summer, which centers on the Seven Guns, a group of scientist-adventurers who modified their own bodies for street-fighting in order to take back their West Coast city from a corrupt police force, criminal local government and rapacious private security forces.
I’m not sure if they’re going to adapt the series or merely take theĀ above plotline and make this a hero movie.. That’s not what this is, at all. I have the comics and the plot actually takes place a number of years after the Guns have disbanded. One of them, who is virtually invincible with his floating seeing “eyes”, murders the President holding him accountable for a number of political atrocities. The rest of the team re-groups to try and figure out what to do while the government feels that they’re all a risk and order them to be executed.
The madness in the artwork on these pages is extraordinary, so I’m really hoping they all go all out with the action. It would be like no chaos you’ve ever seen before. That’s a bit optimistic, though. Novelist Ryne Pearson, who wrote the original draft of Knowing, is penning theĀ adaptation.
