Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote pilots for both Birds Of Prey and the Bionic Woman reboot, is penning the adaptation of Ghost In The Shell for Dreamworks. The plan is to turn the futuristic police thriller into a 3D live-action film dealing with the exploits of the cyborg Motoko Kusanagi, (who will probably be renamed “Molly Keenan” or somehing), a member of a covert operations division of the Japanese (American) National Public Safety Commission known as Section 9, a unit specializing in technology-related crimes.

No director is currently attached to the project. Kalogridis also wrote and exec produced Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Shutter Island. But she also wrote Oliver Stone’s Alexander, so go where you want with that.

Agreed. Reboots are more often (in my opinion) reserved for great ideas that were just ahead of their time or would benefit immensely from today's visual effects technology.

GitS is not such a movie. This can really only go downhill. We Americans only do damage when we handle art like this.
