I really don't want Lundy to die, we can already assume Debra will live, but I think you guys have a point with the vacation killer being a suspect. It seems as though Trinity wouldn't do that sort of thing but then again, we only know his three specific kills.

A serial killer has no problem with killing, obviously, so he could have read the first article in the paper detailing the vacation murders. He could have made it look like them in order to cover his tracks.

FYI, Trinity isn't a glory hound, he doesn't like the media, he doesn't interact with the law because that's usually the reason why serial killers get caught.

I really enjoyed the whole back and forth game between Dexter and Zoey. I especially liked how Dexter manipulated her into believing she had control over the situation.

The actress did a fine job playing a killer cop because all the way through, she sought sympathy from everyone. She played that card numerous times with Dexter and I think that even came through when she was trying to explain why she killed her family.

Yes, there are tons of others reasons why a mother would kill her kids and husband but if they took the schizophrenia route, I wouldn't believe it, if they said something along the lines of her being a serial killer, I wouldn't believe it. She's smart and controls those around her, she knew what she was doing but hated the pressure of being tied down. her explanation is plausible.

One thing you forgot to mention is Dexter epiphany. When he realizes he'd rather have his family know what he does than lose them again, yet another step towards humanity.

I liked the review you guys provided, wish it was put together a little quicker after the episodes ending. I really wanted to discuss the possibilities and now that the new episodes come on tomorrow, the wait is almost over.

    Hey Landfill!

Thanks for commenting. Yes we sometimes get delayed with other things but will work to get the review up faster. I agree that the actress was very good and I did like how she sort of had us guessing and the back and forth between her and Dexter. I also enjoyed the "What is is with you and rape – no one's getting raped here." And was bummed I forgot to mention that line.

Yes the epiphany was huge and the point of her story – we actually do mention it around 3:25 but it's in the middle of me complaining about the storyline in general so maybe it gets lost :) .

Anyway looking forward to seeing how this will move the plot forward this week.

Thanks again for commenting. Hope you are great!

Thanks for pointing that out, it's barely noticeable but it's there. I guess I was too busy listening to how you didn't get why Zoey killed her family.

  4. Beckett Says:

Haha! Yes, Roth was very passionate about that Zoey point! ;) I also bought her reason for killing them. I don't altogether agree with Roth on that one – I think that sometimes when people are pushed far enough, whether justified or not, they can be capable of anything.

And I agree that maybe we should have talked a little more about Dex's epiphany, in fact I wanted to mention the symbolism with the shattered mug too, but I thought that was pretty obvious and we ran out of time – as we often do. That's why there's the internet, there's so much to discuss!

Thanks for watching again Landfill, we shall try to get these done faster from now on! :)

Well the incidence of a woman killing her family is very rare – and usually if she does she is in a state of deep emotional duress (i.e. crazy – profound post pardem or in Susan Smith's case – who knows, maybe a real sociopath), But this woman had the vibe of an assassin. I just didn't buy it.

Her character was created so that Dexter could have had that revelation – which is fine and does increase his humanity. I just didn't find her storyline believable. I guess I feel passionate about it for a lot of reasons. Media depictions of women and the intensity of a scenario where a parent – any parent would murder their child. I would not have bought it if it were a dad either really. But who knows – maybe that is just naive. Either way – it's just a TV show. Good episode and good development for Dex, who I do like to see becoming more human.

    k – hope your good,

    Roth

  6. Landfill Says:

Yes Women killing their kids is rare, especially if they aren't diagnosed with a mental disorder. You keep giving a great example, but this sort of thing does happen.

I mean we don't necessarily hear about people killing their kids for the most part is because the news is depressing. It happens but we only hear the most extremes like the woman with Schizophreania in San Antonio.

Plus, Dexter wouldn't have targeted someone who he thought was crazy because that person doesn't fit into the code at all. I'm sure he would have came to reason and understood why they killed their family and turned them over to the proper authorities.

Another thing, almost every Dexter kill has a reason especially to bring him closer to his human side and away from the Dark Passenger. There are a few that are there but they serve a purpose, last episode's kill was more out there for every one to notice.

  7. Landfill Says:

Yes, people handle their difficult lives in different ways. Zoey's way was just a different take. It's not the right one but she saw an opportunity with framing the guy and she took it. She had to act fast, maybe too fast to stop and think about it. Either that or she hated having baggage that she thought was holding her back and keeping her from controlling the world around her.

Come to think of it, I didn't notice the mug right away but now with you holding my eye lids open, I see.

I have to say getting the review out was very quick, I just really wanted to discuss the last episode because of the cliff hanger ending. I wanted to know what you guys thought, obviously know now from the video review, and I hope tonight's episode does have to many drastic changes, like a death.

  8. Landfill Says:

THIS MIGHT BE A BOOK SPOILER, READ WITH CAUTION

Wanted to point this out, in the books, there is a character similar to Special Agent Lundy. So similar he's even involved with Debra for a time. But anyway he has his scare a time or two and if Lundy is anything close to that, they'll keep him around a bit longer.

I realize the show and the books are two totally different universes but I really like Lundy's presence, he keeps Dexter on edge while making everyone work harder around him. It would be great if they said he's in a coma or massive blood loss, critical condition, something like that.

  9. Marc Says:

I disagree with the notion that Zoey wanting freedom from her family was not a good plot device. It happens all of the time. Why did Scott Petersen kill Lacy? He wanted out that is why. Of course most sane people would just get a divorce but crazy psycho killers don't think straight do they?

  10. rothcornet Says:

Fair enough. Yeah, I thought of Peterson later – he was such a monster. I don't know why – maybe I just don't want to believe a mom is capable of that – in such a cold way – but it just didn't work for me – maybe if there had been an insurance policy or another man – or some other motive…. But, really happy to hear differing opinions. Who knows what psycho killers think – I hope I never know.

Anyway like I said happy to hear differing opinions so thanks for posting yours.

    All the best,

    Roth
