Disney CEO Bob Iger Talks Marvel

Everyone’s wondering just what Disney’s aquisition of Marvel means for their current and future properties, and how much control Disney will employ. CEO Robert Iger spoke at the D23 Expo in California and stated that they will handle Marvel the way they handle Pixar as more of a sideline supporter, and further reinforced his commitment to letting Marvel creators develop properties fans want to see. As for current properties under other ownership, Iger stated that they would let them run their course before acquiring them. So that means more crappy X-Men/Fantastic Four sequels. I think Iger’s really onto something with this Marvel acquisition, and not just in terms of cool. Since Robert Iger and John Lasseter took their positions the Disney name has started to mean quality again with everything they do. I mean, even Bolt wasn’t terrible. It sounds like they’re trying to do everything right.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the merger – for now I'm calling it a win/win. Disney gets a large library of Marvel properties, and Marvel gets Disney money backing them. They both get the respective talent from both sides.
