Quentin Tarantino Reviews ‘Sunshine’ (VIDEO)

Danny Boyle’s Sunshine is one of my favorite sci fi films of all time, and if not for the oddly placed “twist” at the end, it probably would be my #1 sci-fi movie ever.  Luckily I was warned before hand about how the movie shifts into a different genre towards the end, so I was prepared for it.  Unfortunately for Tarantino, he was not so lucky and is enraged by the third act of the film.  Watch him discuss the greatness and the weaknesses of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine.

If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it except with the warning of there is an unfortunate “change” at the end that didn’t need to be there.

WARNING – THERE ARE SPOILERS IN TARANTINO’S REVIEW

This is an awesome find, Dennis…

What's interesting is that while I agree with Tarantino that in "Sunshine" the sudden change of genre crushed what could have been a good movie, the exact same criticism could be made of the Rodriguez/Tarantino collaboration "From Dusk Till Dawn," which starts off as a really good gangster road picture and morphs into cheap horror.

Now "From Dusk Till Dawn" isn't as ambitious as "Sunshine" so I suppose the tragedy isn't nearly as great, however Tarantino should maybe hesitate before throwing around those rocks inside that big glass house.

Yeah, the first 20 minutes of "From Dusk Til Dawn" are great, and not only is there a genre shift, but it's not even a novel story, I saw practically the same story in one of those "Tales From The Crypt" movies, and I'm sure there's plenty of others that are the same.

Though I will say, seeing Salma Hayek in a bikini dancing with a snake was pretty awesome.

Okay, you got me there. That snake-bikini scene was pretty incredible.
