Totally agree with Roth that they missed out on the repercussions of the Dallas storyline. Why did Sookie have to go to Eric in a dream? Why didn't she go for real, it would have made so much more sense – I thought she was so compassionate. Or how does Godric's death effect Eric's relationship with Pam? She's his closest … person, a kind of friend, no? He's her maker, what's their relationship like anyway? Next season will be too late and that's really too bad. I think AB etc underestimated the power the Godric/Eric story would have and that in comparisson the Maenad story must disappoint.

That is SO true. Seriously there wasn't a single scene in which I didn't think AS was amazing. Even in the lame dream with Sookie he was great – I was just upset about the dream itself but Eric was superb. So I guess we can stop worrying about his storyline ) Whatever it'll be, he'll deliver.

Also I think AB and his team are smart enough to see the effect Eric has on the viewer, dare I say he intended it this way? I think Bill's blandness and Eric's awesomness this season are slowly leading to the revelation that Bill has double played Sookie and then we'll already like Bill much less than we did last season, so in a way the betrayal won't be as hurtful. Everyone is ready for Eric I think, even Sookie is and will be even more so after her betrayal by Bill.

Yes Sophie Ann is about 2000 yeas old in the book – I realize I made it seem like she was younger when I said centuries-I meant cumulatively Yes I agree – she seemed more like a boarding school girl than anything else to me. But I really do like her as an actress and hope that she can grow in this role. I think she can. I hope next week is fantastic and blows all our minds setting us up for next season! Not repetitive at all! It really means a lot to hear that people are enjoying the reviews! And yes – the Zombies are really on my nerves as well! I think the finale will certainly be he last of them.I miss feisty Tara as well and I feel hat Tara and Sam's character development was in many ways sacrificed this season in favor of dragging out the Maryann plot line – as well as Bills honestly. You brought up excellent points about this episode that are easily overlooked. The whole "never underestimate the power of blind faith" aspect of this episode, and pretty much the entire season. I think it was hard for me to acknowledge this theme because that line (truthfully, almost all her lines were made of great writing) was given to Shopie-Anne to say, and I had real problems with how Wood portrayed that character. I don't know her from Eve or anything about her, it was purely along the lines of what you stated: she seemed more like someone playing at being centuries old, and was more like an entitled brat rather than a ruthless, cunning Queen. Which is unfortunate after having Allen Hyde, who played well beyond his years of experience/life. It did continue to confuse me on how much younger vampires, and presumably less powerful vampires, can be higher in the Vampire Hierarchy than the significantly older ones. I haven't read the books, so I'm not sure if that's explained in them or not. I find it interesting, but confusing.

Your review was definitely the most entertaining thing about this ep. Not that I don't enjoy your take on the show every week (obviously, I do), it's just that these last two episodes have been epically boring for me. I'm hoping the finale blows my mind in a huge way.

It may start to sound repetitive, but really enjoy your take and insight on the True Blood story line this season. Thought the Queen Sophie was great, and REW owned it. What else can a vampire who has attained the highest office in the state aspire to, except to completely regress to total hedonism and self indulgence with a touch of pretension. It was a great counter point to how Godric's character dealt and coped with his immortality and power. I actually had a big turn off this episode with the Bon Temp zombies…they are getting on my last nerve! I was expecting that with the approaching appearance of the "God Who Comes", we would see more frenzy and total abandon among the town folk, but no go. Especially cringing was the Bon Temp's Sheriff with Andy when he goes to collect ammunition at the station…I don't know if the timing was off, but there seemed to be uncomfortable lulls in scene. Was hoping to see Sam Merlotte's character develop more- Sam always seems to play the goody, altruistic Betty amongst the men folk in the series. Will he stop being everyone's doormat? Miss our feisty Tara from Season 1- I get that she is trying to open herself up to "trust", but that edge, chip that was Tara is gone…maybe we will get a bit of her ol' self back if we fry "Eggs" with a side of Mary Anne in the finale : ) Love Sheriff Eric, though with Pam, am tired of him ask if someone, if anyone, will get him Sookie Stackhouse. She's just another blood bag Eric, or is she? Political pawn to attain greater power in the vampire hierarchy or someone bold enough to challenge and keep our 1,000 year old Norse Adonis on his toes? Looking forward to the finale, and your breakdown on all things True Blood next week.

Roth: I agree 100% that the concept of making Bill "good' and Eric "bad" is a huge mistake. So far it has just made Bill seem like a big A-hole instead of a hero. My point – which I didn't really articulate – is just that AS is such an amazing talent that Eric isn't a villain because AS doesn't believe he is. Maybe (probably) AB was trying for menacing I'm going to eat the children but AS totally worked it so that instead we just love him more. IMHO.

And I am constantly in favor of letting the vampires be vampires – what I felt this week – was that they cheesed it out and that if they keep it up that Eric would loose his dimension as Bill did this season. Bill went from a Vampire last season to an overly perfect moralizing boyfriend in the shows attempt to keep him the perfect "Hero" which made him a lot less interesting to watch. I just do not want them to go the opposite route with Eric in SeasonThree and make him a two dimensional "villain" against Bills "Hero" so that they both become less interesting to watch. Again I have said much of what you did in my previous blogs – I was criticising the way they handled this character – in this episode specifically – when they had such a great opportunity to do great things with him after the Dallas storyline. NOT the character in general – he is one of my favorites.

Thanks for commenting! Good to hear your point of view ! Yeah it wasn't so much the suit as the lounging that felt a little over the top for me.
Also if you see my other blogs you'll see that Eric is now and always has been one of my favorite characters – I have no issue at all with how he handled Lafayette.
In fact just the opposite. I have said that I love the way he and Lafayette are together if you see the other blogs you will see that. As well as all of the other great things I say about him.

I like that he is all the things you mentioned – dimensional, funny, sexy and yes even dangerous. And have said so multiple times. In fact this is really one of the only things I have criticized the show for doing with this character – making him TOO much of the villain. Something they started to do – then stopped and made him interesting again. I want him to stay that way, and not become a flattened out bad guy,

Hi Yinka Wills! Thank you!!! Thank you for coming to the site and checking out our other videos – that is great!!! Really glad you liked "Michael Bay" we had so much fun doing that one I agree their marketing team is genius ! I agree that episode was powerful and gave us the most powerful performances of the year from the cast – so it was going to be touch to come back from. I agree on ERW I wish she had been given a better direction – but it feels as though whoever was on that set didn't understand what the character would or could be, And these are great actors. Bill should have been able to be afraid of her. That would have given the lounging a far more tense and sinister feel – not sure where the bodyguards are. In fact I felt the whole scene made her seem very isolated, not like a woman with a kingdom to run. Thanks again for posting great comments! Looking forward to seeing what you think of the finale!

Cool Yeah I can see where you are coming from on the Eric Teacup scene. Oh EMO is like a fad where guys just sort of lounge around looking bored and listless – that's what the looked like to me there. I like him funny and baddass and all man and real. You know I really see what you mean with this scene – I have to admit my overall concern was that they were just going to drive even further to make him the "bad guy". Loved the mussed flying hair ! I liked hints of the deception too – I just hope they fulfill it and don't punk out as they have done with Lorena and so many other things thus far

Yeah I think its great that the show is sexy but honestly with all the rampant Zombie sex orgies this season really very little of it has actually been sexy at all.

Hmm, well yes I can see where that may be that he was in mourning. And I was actually looking forward to seeing what they would do with that as a storyline. I guess my concern is that there has been a pattern in the series of making him more of a villain and they veered away from that with the Godric storyline and the first thing we saw after that was him making a crack about how kids are delicious – and I was like "oh no – no this again…" Mr Big Bad Guy or something. I love that he is dark and dangerous and sexy and funny and unpredictable – and I definitely don't want them to turn him into a moralizing over perfected guy (which hey kind of did with Bill). I just don't want him to be some melodrama villain – I want him to be Eric, and all that that implies ;D

Hi Katharina!!! Thanks for commenting! Haha – it wasn't so much the suit as the reclining that threw me off – just seemed a little over the top. I see what you mean – reminding us that he is not human – and I agree. I was more concerned that the show seems to be taking him more in an out and out villain route against Bills moralizing hero and I don't like either direction for those characters. Pam cracks me up so I was just happy to see more of her !

The makeup this year has been a bit chalky for everyone – but then they inexplicably leave others alone – like Isabelle.

Haha – yeah this whole Maryann storyline has gone on too far but I have a feeling I know who they are gonna switch the targeted sacrifice to – and it wont be Sam – can anyone say Damsel in Distress

Yes, the "teacup humans" did seem similar – though a little more sinister

Yeah with Tara and Maryann – well to be honest I just haven't liked this storyline the whole season or where they have taken Tara's character – so I hope to see a return to more of the Tara of season one – next season!

I respect your opinion, but I have a few things to say here about Northman:

1. The way I see it, Eric's suit was simply part of his Fangtasia act, just like Pam's clothes are. In Season 1, it was like this as well. When they're not at the bar, you can see they wear their normal clothing. I think it would be actually silly if they used the same stuff for their business nights. Anyway, I loved that suit, in my opinion he looked perfect in it. *_*

2. Eric has never been two dimensional, in fact, we've seen many of his layers already. I didn't expect him to receive Sam with open arms. He said it: shifters are not precisely friends of vampires. In this episode Eric was mischievous, cocky, funny, unreadable as always, and dangerous.

Now, selling V is kind of a big deal when it comes to vampires. Eric is a sheriff and Lafayette happened to sell it in his area. He managed things with him the way vampires do. In this case Lafayette should be thankful he didn't do anything worse. I can only imagine the Magister or other sheriffs wouldn't have been so forgiving. But yeah, it's not like he was good to Lafayette because he suddenly liked him: Eric is an strategist and he acted like one in this case, killing two birds with one stone. Hopefully, we will find out what's going on with the V thing he's doing now in the finale.

Finally, Eric saying the children were delicious: well, he's a freaking vampire, not a human, for God's sake. lol If you're not a vegetarian, you have probably tried veal, lamb and/or suckling pig, just to give you a few examples, and you know how delicious and delicate their flavour is. So, in any case, that means we humans are monsters as well. Or is it that because that's our food it's ok? I can only see the same thing happens to vampires. Anyway, at the end, it was kind of obvious to me he was simply joking and giving Pam a hard time. He actually seemed delighted with Arlene's kids. "Good night, tiny humans" He was an entertaining show-off just for them.

Look, this is a show which can be preposterously melodramatic. But it has tons of heavyweight actors in it. All bringing their 'A' game. Thus, we see brilliant three dimensional portrayals of Jason, Andy, Lafayette…this show's supporting actors regularly steal it. Right now, ERW is not cuttting it…thus her whole scene lost the dramatic tension it could have had. Bill would have been AFRAID of the consequences of leaving the Sophie Anne in the book…BTW, wher is Andre,where are her bodyguards Vigbert and Seigbert???

Found you reviews on YouTube a few weeks ago, then looked for the site. Your reviews are so witty, Ive become a HUGE fan! (Kudos for your 'Michael Bay directs Harry Potter' I snorted tea through my nose all over my keyboard).
I've become a TrueBlood addict- their faux documentaries, adverts, viral marketing etc is amazing.Clever and helps create the world the show is set in. Now, as regards this episode, the problem is that the whole Godric storyline was so epic, so well acted, so elegaic… Allen Hyde had SUCH an impact, that subsequent episodes were likely to seem a little flat by comparison. They managed to ratchet up the tension with the whole the-towns -gone-to-hell-sam's-'scarifice'-and tara's-exorcism. This ep squandered that. And ERW, a talented actress, has made a piss poor choice in how she's chosen to play her character. And it jars.

Things I would have liked except I’m so frakin tired of this story:
The Jason and Andy buddy show – was good but it just felt like so much filler.
Sookie’s exploration of her now completely creepy house. Starting with Jane’s offering, sink boy, the utterly creepy spooning with Mike Spencer, guy trying on her dress… Allan Ball did a great job and I would have enjoyed it – about three episodes ago!

Things I loved:
Eric – what little there was. "They're like humans but miniature. Teacup humans." Totally disagree with you there Roth, I loved this scene. I also loved your imitation of the queen and Eric. But “the Emo Euro Eric”? – you lost me there. I confess to not even understanding what you are talking about. And I totally disagree that this scene represented “mustached dastardly shell Eric”. What I loved was that I actually couldn’t tell if Eric just found the kids adorable or delicious or both. AS is so good that I can imagine Eric both loves to entertain kids and is perhaps a little tempted to eat them. Or maybe he was just yanking Pam’s chain.
Eric in a dress – and looking totally hot wearing it. Eric using the word tribute in reference to Sam delivering Sookie. Flying. Mussed hair from flying – be still my heart. Vainly attempting to fix mussed hair – priceless. Calling Bill “Billy”. Eric calling out Bill on giving Sookie his blood.
Hints of Bill’s deception to Sookie. He knows Hadley and yet never mentioned it to Sookie – why?

What I thought of this episode in one word: disappointing. In three words not enough Eric.
Things I didn’t like:
I didn’t like ERW’s performance as the queen at all. I agree with you 100 % on that, Roth. They gave her every opportunity to rock in this role and she blew it. Didn’t like that everyone split up to do their own thing like idiots. Shouldn’t Sam, Jason, Andy, Sookie, Hoyt, Jessica, and Lafayette stick together at this point? Shouldn’t they at least be calling each other to exchange information? Hoyt dumping Jessica for one little bite? Really? She didn’t kill Maxine or even hurt her! Also, didn’t like that Eric’s idea was identical to the Bill’s – go to the queen. Eric asking Bill “Has she mentioned me?” WTF?

Great review, as usual! I must say I was disappointed with this episode. Partially because I have read the book series more times that I should admit and it is straying too much for my taste. I am finding myself pleased that the season is almost over instead of sitting on pins and needles hardly able to wait for the next episode.

I don't like ERW's interpretation of the Queen. Way more sexual than the books character but almost to the point that it was unbelievable. How can you be the all powerful Queen of Louisiana but be so preoccupied with sex and lounging around? It will be interesting to see how they develop the character in the coming season.

Hated how silly Eric looked. I prefer him as a total bad ass that you can't stop drooling over. Bill…what a secret keeper. Can't wait for Sookie to find out what he's really up to.

Loved the sheriff running around in boxers. Still makes me laugh!

Looking forward to the wrap up in a few weeks. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

I loved your review as usual!! I disagree with Erics situation I liked that he wasnt his usual self considering that he is still mourning and contemplative about his makers suicide! The suit I just thought it was cause he was working and not on down time I dont think that they made him seem like he wanted to eat Arlenes kids although he did make the comment about them being delicious but he was so quick to comply to show them his fangs when they asked… also when he asks whats a matter little girl dont you like vampires it was more like mocking…Pam obviously finds them disgusting LOL! I think he finds them at the very least amusing stupid little humans…I mean he even winked at them before he flew off.

What did you think about Bill and Erics exchange and how Eric brings up the fact that Bill was so quick to give Sookie his blood back in Season 1 hmmm something is up!! I hope this is alluding to the books storyline!!

Ha! Great review, loved your reflections on the need for balance between Bill and Eric. To me the balance is still in favour of Eric, I like him tragic but I definitely like him mean. They would never dare showing him actually eating little children, but I thought it was a nice touch to remind everyone that Vampires are really not human. I loved the dialogue about the children: They are so stupid! But delicious. I guess that's a pretty accurate description from a non-human perspective, we humans are just overly emotional about our offspring. I also digged the disco suit (I'm European, I guess that explains it) and LOVED Pam's sequined jumpsuit. Same feelings about the queen, fantastic outfits and decor, pathetic performance. No idea what went wrong but it went w r o n g, was a pain to watch. And what's wrong with the make-up department? Bill looks worse every week and even Pam looked old in this episode.

Loved Lafayette. Jason was fun, but I have heard enough from Andy Bellefleur now, I'd like a new protagonist. The hole safe-the-town story has run out of juice long ago, I don't care who saves who (Suuuuuuuuuckiiiiiee), I don't care about the egg, I don't care about the townsfolk, if someone needs to be sacrificed, Tara, her mother and Eggs have my vote for all the aggravation they have caused me.

Great review Roth! I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about giving us a reason that we actually WANT Sookie to end up with Eric or with Bill. Eric is so nasty in the series and Bill isn't telling Sookie everything she would want to know. Do you think he'll mention Hadley to Sookie? Not a chance – and he won't mention why he happened to walk into Merlotte's the night he met Sookie either. I don't want her to hang with either one of them. In fact, I find myself cheering for fewer and fewer characters after this last episode. Poor Sookie – her house is in shambles, her boyfriend is playing games behind her back, her best friend is showing her true colors, and if I were Sookie, I don't think I'd still be wanting to live in that town with all it's creepy inhabitants. Let's hope the next episode makes up for this week's let-down.

Personally, I thought ERW was OK. I think she'll grow on us as her character is developed.

I agree that ERW has a lot of potential as Sophie Ann, but she wasn't there yet. Hopefully she'll be more sinister and ruthless when dealing with someone like Eric. Part of what makes Sophie Ann so interesting (at least potentially) is her ability to deal with both vampires and humans. We saw her being all day room and Yahtzee with mainstreamer Bill. Maybe next episode will have her be all fangs and nasty with vampire Eric??

Was it just me, or did Eric's "teacup humans" remark mirror Sookie's "booze for dolls" observation??

I did feel cheated with Tara running back to Maryann. I felt it cheated us out of the dramatic tension from the previous episode.

Hopefully the finale will be worth the craziness of the last two episodes.
