Summer Glau Officially Cast in ‘Dollhouse’

Though not a big surprise since Summer Glau is a Firefly/Whedonverse alumni, and the rumors have been running since the cancellation of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the girl who played River Tam and Cameron the Terminator is officially now a cast member of Dollhouse.  Though the details of how many episodes and how long she will be on the show aren’t clear, it will be at least a couple episodes.

Though I was happy to see Dollhouse return, I would have much rather have seen the superior show Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles return instead.  So while Glau’s casting in Dollhouse is good news, it is bittersweet for me, in the sense that it reminds of why its even possible for her to be in the show.  What are your thoughts? Fan of Dollhouse? Terminator SCC?

    Just glad she's working again. The girl's too talented. And I dig that she's, as of a few months ago, NOT playing an active. It'd be nice to see her play it straight for once.

    I saw her play normal once, in the David Mamet TV Show 'The Unit', and it was kind of weird, not because she did a bad job but I was so used to RIver or Cameron.

    It's great that she is back on the air on such a good show. I do agree that Terminator:TSCC was way better. Especially towards the end of its too short run. They had Summer poised to go from Terminator to normal resistance fighter and that would have been an interesting transition to watch from an acting standpoint. I think she played the most interesting Terminator, and I'm including the movies, since she is able to turn on real human emotions leftover from the human she was modeled on. There was one particular exchange towards the very end that I thought was really cool. Her Cameron character clarifies to John Connor how despite her role as his protector, deep down the core of her programming is to kill him immediately and that will never change. She simply overrides that core programming for now. Dammit, this is reminding me how much I miss that show. DAMN YOU FOX!

    She was awesome on The Unit. But yeah, totally agree about it being a little odd. She did a great job though. The Unit is a pretty cool show though overall. It's one of those shows that CBS doesn't promote though. And had it been on FOX surely would have gotten canceled by now.

    Totally agree with you about Terminator SCC, its something that people who actually watched consistently know how deep and well done it was. And that's why this news is good, yet reminds us of what FOX did to this wonderful show.

    On another note, I'm hoping Dollhouse steps up its game and keeps the quality of its unaired finale (which was very good).

    I agree she's talented, but sometimes I wonder what kool-aid these FOX crack heads are drinking.

    Dollhouse is alright. And in my opinion just barely alright. Towards the end of the first season (didn't get to see the 13th episode) I felt it was just too predictable. Somewhere along the line I just felt I understood Joss' mind behind the story and it became just bland to me. I also think Eliza Dushku is highly over rated. She's a pretty face, but not as pretty as Summer and no where near as talented.

    T:SCC was just far superior. Once again I can't believe the short sightedness of FOX.

    Also feel similarly about Dollhouse, but you definitely should check out the 13th episode, it's by far the best one, and I wish they went that route instead. Dusku is overrated (though hot), and you probably will like the unaired finale as she is only in it for like 7 minutes.

    T:SCC was such a good show and people didn't even get a chance to realize how great it actually was, and now probably never will.
