Check out me and Roth’s video review of Neil Blomkamp’s District 9, in it we discuss what we liked in the movie, and what we felt could have been improved. Let us know what you thought of our review or of the actual movie.

Watched the movie a few hours ago and was amazed at how great the movie is with such a small budget. The movie definitely looked more expensive than what we're told it was. The special effects were great and the acting was brilliant.
At the beginning of the movie I feel a discomfort toward the aliens. I think that they are mindless and can't take care of themselves. I think that they are utterly helpless and won't survive on their own. It's a strange set of feelings during this movie for the aliens because they go from one side to the other. You feel hostility towards them at one point but by the end of the movie, you're cheering them on and are hoping they succeed. I just think that was a good part of the film.
Sharlto Copley's performance was great. I loved the fact that he started out as a quirky guy sitting behind a desk with really nothing to do. He at first reminded me of Michael Scott from The Office. After he's done with that performance, he turns up the intensity with the sickness that takes place and then the whole freaking out mode with his arm. This was great and even at the point of his desperation when he sneaks into District 9 so he won't get caught was awesome. He reminded me of some person that was hooked on drugs looking for a fix and that one fix was cat food.
I have to say that whoever created Christopher and his son are amazing. At first you think they're just another hostile alien trying to stay put and not obey authority. Glad that all changes throughout the film. His son was a good piece of the film. I too enjoyed the scene where he's comparing arms with Wikus.
Just though I'd touch on a few high points of the film. There are tons more but can't really think of them now. Will comment more if they come back to me. Great review by the way.

Yeah Copley's character in the beginning also reminded me of Michael Scott, awkward and ignorant with a bit of innocence to him.
How did you like the mech suit? I thought it was badass.

Mech suit was awesome. I was wondering for awhile if they were ever going to use it. I saw a few things in the previews like when it catches the bazooka rocket, one of the better scenes, and almost gave up on it. The best part was when it activated and caught all those bullets.
Out of the entire film, what did you like most?

I liked Sharlto Copley's performance and the action scene with the mech suit at the end the most. I'm still blown away by his acting skills for a "non-actor" and also can't believe this movie was made for $30 million, it looks so much bigger and better than alot of $100+ million blockbusters this year.

Yeah I've been telling everyone about the small budget. I've also been praising the acting.
I think it's very hard to explain what the movie's about to other people without sounding boring somehow. I just try to tell people it's about aliens. Even that isn't correct at all. I was telling a friend that it involved aliens and the fact that they were kind of trapped here on Earth and they quickly lost interest I think. Maybe District 9 isn't for everyone even though almost everyone liked it.

Yeah its movie where you don't won't to spoil the twist of the movie that isn't shown in the trailers, but most people who have seen it loved it, especially the ending action sequence.
