“Avatar” Poster – Zoe Saldana (PIC)

You’ve probably seen the Sam Worthington as a Na’vi poster for Avatar, as it was all over the place at Comic Con and many websites. Now they have released the Zoe Saldana version. If they hadn’t said this was Zoe Saldana, I’d have no idea, and there probably lies the main problem with Avatar. The hype about it was that the CG was so realistic, but in actuality it’s not and if I can’t even tell a character is supposed to be based on a real person, than there’s a problem.
I’m not saying Avatar won’t be a good movie, or I’ll dislike it, but clearly there is still far to go in creating “realistic” human/human-like characters. Gollum was a big leap forward, but I don’t see Avatar being the one that takes it to the next level.
(Note: Also basing this off the 25 minutes of footage I saw at Comic-Con)

the other poster does look like sam worthington. the similarities are probably more noticeable in their facial performances, and you said yourself it wasn't the right sort of projection for it. i still have high hopes for this one. not "change the world of cinema" hopes, but yknow.

Yeah, I've downgraded my expectations for this one, though I still think it will be really good, just not "earth shattering" like previous hype had led me to believe. I did enjoy hearing James Cameron speak though, and he has created two of my favorite Sci FI movies of all time (Aliens and T2).
