In a strange reversal, Ridley Scott has now commited to direct the Alien prequel. In May, Ridley Scott’s brother and production company partner Tony Scott revealed that an Alien prequel was coming and would be directed by relatively unknown Carl Erik Rinsch. Unfortunately for Carl, no one bothered to tell 20th Century FOX, who were funding the move, and was not to happy with that.
FOX decided to hold out until Ridley Scott agreed to direct the film which is a prequel to his original Alien movie, and now according to Variety they have gotten their way.
Since this movie is a prequel, that means Sigourney Weaver can’t be in it (unless its a cameo), and now the question is who will be the lead? Will it be another woman? And where is the story taking place?

I always wanted them to do a story about the alien ship that the eggs were found on. A movie about that would be cool although, I do love the mystery of it too. Now I'm really jazzed for this one.
I wonder if it's going to be a thriller/horror like Alien, or an action movie like Aliens?

Not sure how good a prequel for Alien would be. What made the creature scary and interesting was the mystery of where the monsters came from and what their purpose was. Unless you count the silly "Alien vs. Preadator" as canon, then any explanation into the mythology of the Alien would only ruin what was special about the original movie.
Perhaps they won't go into the origin, and just show another ship or planet getting attacked?
