“Akira” Live Action Movie Now Dead

According to Bloody Disgusting, the Akira live action adaptation of the classic Japanese anime/manga of the same name is now dead.  Originally it was going to be a 2 part movie that was being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way and Warner Bros.

I’m not sure how I feel about this, as I am a huge fan of the original Akira movie (original English dub version though), and wasn’t sure if a live action movie would be a good idea.  It’s one of those franchises much like Watchmen that were done so well in their original medium that a live action version probably won’t add anything to it, and most likely detract from the story.

What do you think of this rumor?  Were you a fan of the original and looking forward to this?

THANK GOD!!! I am a huge fan of the original original AKIRA movie and was hoping this wouldn't end up in the ruined remake-of-my-favorite-comic-into-the-worst-live-action-move-ever dungeon. yay!
