No one could ever accuse Todd McFarlane of being at a loss for confidence. In an interview with MTV News, McFarlane has stated that he’d like Leonardo DiCaprio to star in the upcoming rebooted Spawn movie.
“The main character isn’t Spawn, per se, it’s the guy chasing Spawn,” McFarlane told MTV News. “And I’ve always had Leonardo DiCaprio in the back of my mind.”
“It’s not a big special-effects movie, it’s a character movie, so I could shoot it in 40-50 days and you don’t have to budget that much time.”
What do you think of this dream casting McFarlane has? Is he smoking crack?

[...] Hopefully Leonardo DiCaprio has some time after this to go work on Spawn with Todd McFarlane, hahahahaha (see http://www.thinkhero.com/2009/06/10/wtf-todd-mcfarlane-wants-leo-dicaprio-for-spawn/) [...]
I'm thinking that if the budget were big enough, sure they could cast Dicaprio. I don't think he's a fan of Spawn and I don't think he' s been waiting for this role to come up but oh well. As for the confidence of MacFarlene, well you can't blame the guy for trying and never giving up on the Spawn sequel/reboot that will never get made.
I used to be a huge McFarlane fan when I was in high school. Loved his artwork and his entrepreneurial spirit. But once he started buying those baseballs and stopped drawing, I kind of lost interest.
That aside, if you look at how big Leonardo Dicaprio, and whay types of movies he's been doing lately and who he's been doing them with (Martin Scorsese, Daniel Day Lewis, Jack Nicholson, etc.) there's no way he would do it, no matter the budget.
I'm guessing Leo's main goal right now is to win an Oscar, and that's why he's working with Scorsese because it gives him the best shot. He already has been nominated twice (Aviator and Blood Diamond) and he wants to get that win.

DiCaprio is wanting and Oscar and he's been snubbed a few times if you ask me. I really think that he keeps working with Scorsese because he really like the director and the way he does things. I think everyone who works with Martin would enjoy the process of film making.
As for being paid millions upon millions, I think that anyone would take a role if it were enough. Plus I think I read somewhere that Leo was a big comic book geek and has been waiting for a good project to come up. I really don't think the next Spawn movie will be that project he's looking for but I don't think it's impossible.
