In an interview with Wizard Magazine, Shia Lebouf said that he is no longer interested in playing Yorick in the upcoming Y The Last Man movie that’s based on the  comic book series written by Brian K Vaughan (Lost), citing that the character is too similar to his role in Transformers. Lebouf says:

“You take Sam and you put a monkey on his shoulder. I don’t know if it’s that big a differential. It seems like he’s the ordinary guy in an extraordinary situation again.” He continued, “I’m not willing to make that movie currently, and may be too old to play the role by the time it does come around.”

I think it’s kind of odd that he says this, as a lot of his roles lately have been quite similar, such as in Eagle Eye and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  The last thing I saw him in that was different, and that he actually did a good job in was Guide To Recognizing Your Saints.

Now director DJ Caruso must look elsewhere for a young leading man, and since this isn’t Spider-Man it will be much harder to get a big name like Lebeouf.

What do you think of this news? Did you read Y The Last Man?

I’m about halfway through the series, and want to know what you think about who should play Yorick.
