According to screenrant.com FOX is not happy with the Scott brother’s choice of director for the upcoming Alien Prequel. Tony and Ridley Scott are attached as producers on the film and have slated commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch to direct.

Rinsch  is “part of RSA Pictures (a Scott brothers’ production company), he is also (allegedly) romantically involved with Ridley’s daughter Jordan. I guess, then, the comment made by Tony Scott about Rinsch being “one of the family,” wasn’t just referring to the business side of things.”

Ridley prefers to produce on the prequel and leave to directing to someone  else.

FOX is less than pleased with an Alien prequel which does not include Ridley Scott, the original director, at the helm. I have to say, I agree.  I happen to be a huge fan of Aliens, the James Cameron directed sequel to Alien; however for the prequel it feels like going back to the original creator is what is called for. This is a delicate piece of business, and could easily become an exercise in playing with special effects and kitschy “reveals” in the mythology, not to mention heinous “shout outs” to now classic scenes. Scott is the kind of director who will bring a thoughtful and subtle hand to the project, and that is just what is needed. So if he cares about his baby – he’ll get on board. Lest we see a repeat of Alien 4: Resurrection….uhhhh. A film that floundered even in the hands of a truly great director – Jean-Pierre Jeunet. What do you guys think?
