Showtime’s Dexter Season 3 DVD and Blu Ray cover art has been released, and the release date for the DVD/Blu Ray has been announced for August 18, 2009.
People have been telling me how good the series is, I have season 1 on DVD and have watched a few episodes. I liked it but I haven’t got hooked like other people who are addicted to the series.
Have you watched Dexter, and how many episodes did it take for you to get hooked?

Oh yes I am one of those people who are addicted to Dexter. The show is great and I can't wait for the new season. I would have to say it took me a few episodes but I was hooked so quick it seems as though I never not watched the show.
Really? Man I saw the first episode and was hooked right away! If you're not getting into it and you're a couple episodes in D – I dunno. Come on, what's not to get hooked on – every episode is wrought with tension; cuz rule #1 is "Don't Get Caught"… In season 2 (and this isn't really giving anything away), he imagines himself as a superhero. It's just awesome

Well I was just being honest. The main reason why I started to watch the show is because Dexter is a serial killer. The show has more to offer than that though. I love how he's becoming more human as the show goes on and how he's starting to care more for the people around him. This certainly doesn't happen in the books, well I haven't read the latest one but the other three are like that.
Oh, Beckett was probably talking to me when she said I dunno. I like the show, it's just not as compelling to me as other shows like The Wire, Deadwood, etc.
Even True Blood, which I wasn't too sure about got me more hooked than Dexter. I think I maybe semi-allergic to Showtime shows. Hahahaha
Dennis
That would be a terrible allergy if it were real because Showtime is the new HBO. Oh and I see now what Beckett was referring to. I would suggest you take some time to try again to get to know Dexter because it's a great show and it has alot to offer. Like I said earlier, it took me a few episodes but, like True Blood, after a few episodes I was hooked forever. Everything about the show is awesome and the books are great too. Oh and I really can't compare Dexter to Deadwood or The Wire because sadly, I haven't watched either of those shows. I always wanted to check out Deadwood and I hear great things about The Wire but never got around to viewing them.
Not sure if it's so much an allergy but a bias I guess. The new Showtime shows are good, but they just don't achieve the greatness of the golden age of HBO. For me the run HBO had is the pinnacle of the TV format. If you haven't seen shows like Deadwood and The Wire, you're missing out. These shows are amazing. Also other shows during that era were Band of Brothers, Sopranos, Rome, Extras, Six Feet Under, Da Ali G Show, and more.
And while on the end of their era, HBO still has True Blood, Flight of The Conchords, Eastbound and Down and Entourage.
That being said, I will give Dexter another try and see if it grabs me more. Sometimes a show takes awhile before I get hooked.
Dennis
Oh I know what you mean by the standards that were set by HBO back in the day. I always wanted to watch all those shows you mentioned. I have seen a few Band of Brothers, a few Sopranos and the entire series of Six Feet Under.
Showtime shows that are very good now aren't as close to that quality but are pretty good to say the least. Take for instance Weeds, The L Word, Dexter, Californication, Brotherhood, and United States of Tara. I would have added Nurse Jackie in there somewhere but since the show is just now starting, I'm going to have to wait to see if I like it or not. I would have to say that Showtime is definitely hitting their stride as original series go and they can only get better.

Entourage is a very clever series, every episode is very witty and the character Ari is so watchable.
