It really has to do with the relationship between father and son and some truth to their travel. At one point in the book, they come to the realization that they might die either by the hands of the cannibalistic survivors that seem to be everywhere, or by starvation. The best part of the book is at the end which I won't spoil for you but it is a great way to end the book. It was such a faithful adaptation that you'd think McCarthy had written the screenplay. I'm hoping The Road is the same. It makes the movie look a little hokey at first and then it spirals into some really dark themes. Cormac McCarthy knows how to write some epic fiction so I can't wait to see this movie.
