Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie in 2011

According to co-creator Peter Laird, a new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will be coming in 2011.  As someone who was a fan of the original gritty comic book series, it has been a love/hate relationship with what TMNT has become.  The cartoon, which popularized the franchise was very kid friendly and included lame catch phrases and silly villains, but yet made the TMNT franchise continue longer than it ever would have.

Supposedly this movie will be a reboot and go back to the origins of the comic book, which was much darker and serious.  I would love to see this, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, as too much money is to be made on the merchandise and marketing to a younger demographic.

Did you watch the cartoon or read the original comic book? Let me know if you think they should “reboot” this franchise?

I never read the comic, but the show was my religion growing up. Albeit even I as a second-grader was able to pick up on the discrepancies of Shredder's cheesy dialogue (it always bothered me that he called them amphibians.. turtles are reptiles, they're born on land!!) but hey, it was still a great show. The recent revitalization of it – that's a different story. And don't even get me started on that abomination of an animated movie….

When I first heard the rumors about TMNT the movie, I assumed it would be like the classic original live-action '80's awesomeness. I was distraught upon hearing that it would be completely CGI, same as I was on hearing that the upcoming Thunder Cats movie had gone the same route. DISTRAUGHT. For those of us who were fortunate enough to grow up with cartoons in the '80's, these recent re-imaginations of our fond childhood memories are shameful. Kids these days are watching trash. Garbage. Refuse.

In summation, I'm SO SUPER PSYCHED that they're doing another live-action one! Hoping against hope that it will stay true to the Half-Shelled Heroes I so know and love.

Definetly comics. I watched the turtles forever premire today and those comic turtles were awsome. I like how dark and mysterious they are. And have you ever seen the cover with the bloody sword, its awsome.
