According to a source at ShowBizSpy, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in negotiations to star in a Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie.
While there already was an original Buffy movie, that starred Kriston Swanson and Luke Perry, Joss Whedon, who wrote the screenplay for the movie, always has distanced himself from it, saying that the TV series was much closer to his vision and there was too much creative interference in making the original movie.
A possibility would be Buffy returning as a mother, who happens to still be kicking vampire ass.
I actually see this having a bigger chance of happening than a Spike TV spinoff (sorry Roth), as Sarah Michelle Gellar is a known star, Buffy the character is a much bigger brand name than either Angel or Spike, and has a larger and more loyal fanbase.
Also, since Hollywood has always been lazy with coming up with original ideas, recreating and rebooting something that already exists, TV shows or previous classic movies, is becoming quite popular.
As, I just finished watching season 5 of Buffy, this comes as good news to me. My only hope would be opening the door to something possibly cooler in the future (Veronica Mars written by Rob Thomas, directed and produced by Joss Whedon anyone?)

I love Whedon and I also really enjoyed the original Buffy movie [which I have on DVD] but I disliked the Buffy TV show – except for James Marsters as Spike. I won't pay to see a new Buffy movie. Plus, I couldn't care less about Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say, but most people have the opposite reaction for the movie and tv show. I'm at season 6 of Buffy, and I like it a lot so far, though there some flaws and occasional wretched episodes.

OMG!!! I love Joss Whedon, I loved the series more then the Movie. I am actually re-watching them now with my kids. Go figure. I would be the first in line to see the Movie. I am a huge fan of the characters and the actors. I have continue to watch David B. on Bones and Eliza D. on Doll House. Both Excellent Shows. – I am very excited to hear the possibility of the Movie Again.

Although i like angel better I think a buffy movie would be great with the original characters. I doubt the movie would fail because YOU did not pay to see it when all the millions of Buffy fans do shell out their cash to see Whedon't genius on screen. The original movie was garbage in comparison to the stories that have followed (when the writer himself acknowledges this, the audience can too). Maybe you are Kristy Swanson and angry because your career has gone no where…that would explain your distaste for Gellar's success in the role.

Buff the tv seris kicked ass it was so much better than the movie. And the only way I would see the new movie is with Sarah Michelle Gellar. The only thing your right about is Spike was very sexy
I knew a lot of people in the 90s that loved the show and some that watched it just because of Gellar. I am a fan of 80s/early 90s campy/cheesey movies and liked the characters and the Buffy movie. I tried to watch and like the TV show, but just couldn't. I'm an odd one though. I won't deny that. ~shrug~
I would love to see a Buffy movie that is anything similar in mood to the poster above – and of course I insist that Spike play a major role. I think Joss Whedon showed that he can translate a series to the screen with Serenity and Buffy and Whedon fans would flock to this one.
As to V Mars – let’s just get it back on the air – barring that – a Whedon directed movie would be very interesting indeed.
I'd love it! I've really enjoyed most everything Joss Wedon has done – big fan of Jeff Bell too – but that's besides the point.
I've seen Firefly, Buffy, and Dr. Horrible, and liked them all, now I'm going to watch Angel and see if I like that.

i love buffy! i want to know what happens next after the big finish! i know the comics carried on so they could make a movie based on those story lines! i really hope they do a movie with the full cast of course! and maybe some old characters popping in!!

Well people can say what they want about the Buffy series and movie! I LOVED IT!!! I have watched all the seasons and the previous movie. It was great. But what i would like to see is that the series become more “happy”, after Buffy’s mother died everything became gloomey. And when she was resurrected she was very sad to be back (to be alive). Give her a new Angel or Spike to make her happy again…she deserves it!!!
From the rumors of the movie, they talked about Buffy returning as a mother, who is seeking revenge on the vampires for something (perhaps death of husband or father of the child)?

I'm a definite Buffy fan, i started watching it at a young age and have all of the seasons on DVD and never tire of watching the series, i would LOVE if a movie were to be made!! soo pumped!
Great stuff. i also watched buffy from a young age and since then i'm hooked! I'm from South Africa and i must say it's a bit difficult to find some of the seasons, a lot of people want it so you have to junp to get it. I have season 1, 4, 5 & 6. I would love the have the complete set!

I have been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for many years and have passed the DVDs on to my younger sister who is now a fan. As long as Sarah Michell Gellar stars in the movie, i will watch it no doubt. However without her it wouldnt be Buffy…Joss Whendon is a genius!!!

Since the series was over, I have been dreaming of a movie. Of course it has to have Spike (James Marsters) in it also as a major character. I want for their relationship to be explored more in depth, we Spuffy fans were left hanging when the show ended. It would be awesome to see them reunite. Spike was awesome in the show, and he is hot!!!
Well of course loads of people have comment on this with different thoughts and expressions but i would love to see a film where and what happened after season 7 came to an end. Knowing there was a book called queen of the slayers which was made after season 7 that book should also place a part if a new film is going to be placed. Mind u within the book it self it does show and explain about buffy future on

There never has and never will be again anything of Buffy caliber on TV….Angel came real close. All these wanna be shows, Vampire Diaries, True Blood….can all thank Joss Whedon and Buffy. I am now sharing all 7 seasons with my twin daughters age 14. They are obsessed – we have watched 3.5 seasons in 2 months! I think a movie would be FANTASTIC provided Joss would have full control – I think he's proven himself more than enough! Too bad it would have to be in the middle of all the "vampire" insanity. It would be great if somehow Buffy and Angel could end up together but alas that wouldn't be in true "Buffy" style.

Whedon needs to make a bigscreen version of Buffy. Buffy as a mom and wife would be awesome… with the scooby gang still in the picture (Xander, Willow and her Watcher Giles). I would love to see that movie.
I would love to have a new buffy movie with Spike, Angel, and Buffy. It would be great because of the romantic drama between the three of them. But in the end who would Buffy love forever?
I just finished watching all the seasons recently and I was just blown away. I agree with the opinion that this current vampire insanity does not even come close to comparing the phenomenon that is Buffy. This series will never die! I miss seeing new material and seeing SMG on the big screen reprising her unique role would be absolutely amazing.

I love the original (1992) BUFFY movie because it had an element of comedy and dark comedy that I always love in a movie. I equally love the BUFFY tv show because when it started I was 9 yrs old and I loved the fact that the show included( slightly) the tales of other slayers. I love them both. My point is if there is a BUFFY movie I will spend $10+ to go see it in the theatre
