James Marsters Talks “Spike” Spinoff

In an interview with SciFiWire, James Marsters talks about a possible Spike spinoff, and his willingness to do it, but it would need to happen sometime in the next few years. Marsters, who is also starring in the dreadful looking DragonBall movie, said that in order for Spike to work, he needs to still look young, and he believes he’s only got 7 years before he physically starts changing.
With that math, if he were to do a 5 season spinoff like Angel, that means the latest they would have to start in 2 years, which means all the pre-production/negotiations needs to start ASAP. If the spinoff is going to be 2 or 3 seasons, then there’s a little more time.
Here is an excerpt about what Marsters said:
“Oh, yeah, when Angel was coming down, [creator] Joss [Whedon] came to me and said, ‘Do you want to do a Spike project?’” Marsters said in an exclusive interview on Monday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting Dragonball: Evolution. “And I said, ‘Heck yes. In fact, whatever you want to do, whether it’s Spike or not, wherever I am in the world, just call me. I’ll come running. But you have seven years, Joss, because I don’t want to do Spike aging. Let’s keep him the same age, and I think that I can hold that look for about seven years before it starts to become too different.’ Maybe there’s a few more years, but at this point, really it would all have to do with a camera test. Can we light my face in such a way that it’s still in the same ballpark as what the audience is used to? If that’s possible, then I think that it would be a good thing to do.”

Ohhh – a Spike spin off would be fantastic! By far my favorite character on Buffy. An perhaps my favorite vampire of all. Snarky, sexy, comical sid vicous punk rocker that he is. But yeah they better jump on it fast.

Unfortunately from what I read, no. Apparently the movie only cost 45 million, and it made that much in Asia, so add whatever it makes in US when it's released, and you have a profit.
Critically, yes it is a huge failure. People who have seen it, hated it. It looks awful from the trailer too.
