According to IESB.net, they say a source deep in Warner Bros. has heard that they are now worried about releasing any more R-Rated super hero, comic book, or other geek genre film.
After the disappointing box office performance of Watchmen, it is no suprise that Warner Bros would be nervous about putting out another big budgeted R-Rated geek genre movie.
Now the question is, how is this going to influence the decision for Terminator Salvation to go PG-13 versus R? As, we have discussed so eloquently before here:

Has Watchmen ruined it for serious, adult themed geek entertainment? While I did have my problems with the movie, I did think it was well done for the most part, and deserved better than it got at the box office, especially for most people who hadn’t read the original series, and therefore had nothing to compare it to.
What do you think? No more R-Rated geek genre movies? Do you think Terminator Salvation is going to be PG-13?

A real shame, personally i loved Watchmen, and think it's great that they took the chance at making such a risky movie. I am sure that in the long run they will make their money back since this is destined to become a cult classic. That being said the thought that they would stop making such movies is a real loss.
Blame should not fall upon Watchmen. If it is going to be up to the money, more of us who care should front the money. However then you risk producing the Blade sequels. "A" for characters and art design, "C" for dialoge and effects. and WTF on the excess use of TF? Pardon my language.,! SORRY MOM (Shouted from the basement)!
The original work should always dictate the final decision on content. Alvin and the Chipmunks should not get an R rating. Movies about war and honest human condition should be allowed to be true and gritty the way they are. Honest movies about the hard topics.
Probably will scare them off from these type of movies for 7 or 8 years, then when they are getting desperate for new movie ideas, they'll probably come right back
