In what may be the dumbest move this year, NBC Universal will be changing the Sci-Fi Channel’s name into “Sy-Fy”. Starting this July, this new brand name will go into effect. I can understand trying to reboot the brand name, but they could have kept the name and tried re-imaging the logo and had a new imaging campaign.
Wow, I can’t believe that some network executives, think it’s a good idea to take a channel based on a word that defines it’s market and change the name into some misspelled wannabe internet madeup word.
If they’d like, I’ll take the Sci-Fi Channel brand name off their hands. Even given them a dollar for it.
Why do people with control over so much money and influence, have no brains for creativity or marketing?
What do you think of the new name? Do you like it? Am I overreacting?

They could have started by not putting any more money into their absolutely horrid D grade movies; maybe instead invested in some decent TV like they did with Stargate SG1.
Maybe getting more decent shows that are slightly better than Ghost Hunters (I watch it I do) and drop deadbeat awful shows like GHI (how this went so wrong from the original I don’t know) and the Truth show hosted by the moron that they make host the Ghost Hunter specials.
Some of the crap that comes out of the Sci-Fi think tank is just awful. They have only gotten by with the one or two little diamonds they do have.
Renaming a bag of flaming dog poo is still a flaming bag of dog poo on your porch.
WIth BSG and Stargate ending their series, what is Sci-Fi..excuse me, SyFy going to do now? They no longer have flagship shows.
Haven’t seen Ghost Hunters, heard that it was entertaining, but that’s not a marquee show.
Perhaps they will ride Battlestar’s success with Caprica.
