Kings on NBC: Are You Going To Watch?
Posted on: March 13, 20092 comments so far (is that a lot?)
There is a new show premiering on NBC this Sunday called Kings starring Ian McShane (Al Swearengen from Deadwood). It takes place in alternative universe where there is a modern day monarchy in a country called Gilboa. Ian McShane plays King Silas Benjamin and must rule and protect his kingdom from enemies from a neighboring country and from within.
I’m DVRing the first episode and will watch at least the first few episodes. Being a huge Deadwood fan, and Al Sweargen fan, I’ll check it out and get it a chance.
From the previews, I can’t tell if it’s going to be really good or really bad. The setup is interesting, but the story and acting needs to be top notch in order to pull it off.
Question is, are you going to watch it?

Watched it and at first I didn’t care for it. The King is like a low budget Edward James Olmos. I actually still hold that opinion of the actor.
However by the time I was an hour into the 90 minute show I was hooked. I greatly enjoy the Biblical allusions mixed with a striking commentary on the current state of our country.
Even down to the Fed hold all the real reigns of power. Something most Americans don’t think about, but it’s true and I thought it was awesome that this show dared to point it out. . . in a sly way of course.
I’ll continue to watch and hope for best.

You should watch Deadwood then, Ian McShane (who plays the King) plays one of the baddest mofos on the planet.
Deadwood is one of the best TV shows of all time, and Ian McShane plays one of my favorite characters of all time, saloon and brothel owner Al Swearengen.
In his role on Kings however, it seems like he has to be muted for the broadcast audience.
