*The Video Has Been Pulled Down From 2 Different Sources” at Warner Bros Request – Sorry!
Here is the opening to the Watchmen movie. Some people say this is the best part of the movie, even critics who didn’t like the movie. For me it was one of my favorite parts, but I think the Dr. Manhattan backstory sequence was my favorite part. Also this is the only part where I felt the popular music was appropriate, the rest of the movie where pop music came in, took me out of the movie.

Thanks for posting this. FWIW, a number of the music cues, e.g., Billie Holiday, "All Along The Watchtower," etc. are referenced in the series. Doesn't negate your reaction, but thought you might be interested to know.
Im there with you on the Manhattan sequence. Glad he kept the Philip Glass cue for that one.
Yes, I love the Philip Glass music, best music in the whole movie. Ever since Kundun, I always look for Glass's music in movies.
I thought the music fit the movie. In fact, I rather enjoyed it (especially during this opening sequence) … but it also made it feel a bit like Forrest Gump.
That's good info, I don't remember that, but I probably blocked it from my memory when I read Watchmen back in high school. I started re-reading it before the movie, but perhaps I didn't get that far.
Yeah, good call on the Forrest Gump feel, but that's what I didn't like, especially being a fan of the original comic book series, I never got that when I was reading it.
yeah the graphic novel wasn't supposed to be like Forrest Gump, but I can see how the opening sequence can be said to be like it. Although, the whole life flashback approach with Forrest Gump is a great approach and I like it everytime it is used. I do not mind that same premise being used over and over again because I like it so much. I didn't mind that Benjamin Button was really similar (as a whole, not in a ton of specific details) to Forrest Gump either because I still thought it was a great film. This intro was amazing. The music for the rest of the movie was ok, but some times it really irritated me. "Hallelujah" for the sex scene and "Ride of the Valkyries" for Doc blowing up Vietnamese soldiers are some examples. All Along the Watchtower was cool because a) I like the song b) it referenced the graphic novel. However, for the movie it didn't really fit amazingly into that part, even though Ozymandias fortress could be seen as the watchtower.
I thought the Forrest Gump-like flashback thing worked well for the opening scene even though it wasn't like how it was in the graphic novel.
Yeah I actually liked the Bob Dylan song with the intro, but I felt that it worked because it was a montage setting up the story. But later when it was within the narrative of the movie it bothered me, especially Hallelujah, 99 Luftballoons, and Flight of The Valkyries.
I didn't mind Along The Watchtower, because I like the song as well, and fit in the mood better than the other songs, but for me it didn't have to be there.
The best sequence of the film is when Dr. Manhattan described his life and the accident. I'm pretty sure my jaw was on the floor the whole time. Really well put together.
That was my favorite part of the movie as well, using the Philip Glass music fit perfectly, unlike most of the music selection in the film.
See I disagree, I thought all of the music fit perfectly in the surreal world that Snyder created.
Super movie on IMAX. Trailers did not mislead. Movie was better than everything revealed in the trailer.
I was happy with the music. Music was used in soo many different ways. If you feel it didn’t fit you did not fully understand its use for the scene. Sometimes music is meant to seem out of place to add to the confusion and emotion of a scene. Music was also used as blatent homage.
I loved the extended fight sequences we could not get from the book. I felt some of the punches at my seat giving a very strong 4D feel. Action figures and other art direction is amazing.
I missed feeling Manhattan’s response to losing Lauri to the Owl. To bad they did not include the more of the Original Owl and his book.
Casting and Wardrobe were great with the exception of Ozzy. He looked too much like David Spade and lacked the physical developement of the character in the book.
Last note, anyone mentions Forrest Gump in a conversation about a comic movie and they automatically lose their self respect card. Montage is used to cover ground and establish scope in a short amount of time. Opening sequence took many scenes directly from the book and the topics addressed, presenting them in a way an audience could store as a frame of reference for future dialogue/action.
I’ll see the movie again.
Is there a way to download this? It’s been yanked from everywhere else.
