The Oscar nominations are out, and The Dark Knight was left out of the best picture category.  Most of the usual predictions like Slumdog Millionaire, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Milk, Frost/Nixon were there, but instead of possibly The Dark Knight, the last slot went to The Reader.

I haven’t seen Milk, The Reader or Frost/Nixon, but I do know that The Dark Knight is a much better film than Curious Case of Benjamin Button (AKA Forrest Gump 2).  While I enjoyed Curious Case, it definitely did not deserve the 13 Oscar nominations that it recieved.  For the visual effects I can agree, however best picture and adapted screenplay are abominations.  Besides Slumdog, The Wrestler was one of the best pictures of the year, and if anything I’d rather see that up for best picture than Benjamin Button.

Of course Heath Ledger went up for best supporting actor which was well deserved.  But I do think The Dark Knight and Chris Nolan were overlooked for best picture and best director respectively, especially considering Benjamin Button recieved 13 nominations total.  If Curous Case wins best picture I’m going to be upset much like when Titanic won over LA Confidential and Good Will Hunting.

Let me now what you think of this Oscar snub of the comic book genre film.
